It sounds like Bunny was lucky.

when she began failing. "I told her i would let her live as long as she kept eating. When we adopted her they estimated she was 5, but when i took her in for her last vet visit, they said she was at least 15 if she was a day, I still miss her.

You are allowing her to exit this world in her own way, on her own terms. She knows you are with her - I am sure she appreciates it. You know She also is grateful that you are giving her the space she needs to make this transition.

I have Patches, the indoor cat, and the outdoor cat I call Tiger was a feral, neighbors and had I a bunch of kittens taken care of by a TNR organization, 13 years ago and he’s the only one stuck around, He disappeared for seven weeks about eight years back I was sure a coyote had taken him, I cried and cried. Then he showed up, skinny and dehydrated. Soon gained back all his weight. Now he comes up to my second floor deck every evening for supper. I love him and he lets me pet him, but he gets real nervous if he is inside with the door closed. Both of these cats keep me from being so Lonesome I could die, so I know exactly how you feel. Good luck with your care. I’ve gone through it a few times. We hope to outlive our pets, I guess, but it’s always so hard.

Your story reminded me of a kitty we had 50 years ago. We bought a place in the country, and didn't know the owner left at least one cat. As winter came on, we heard a kitty, and then started seeing her. She was all black, and I think she was part Siamese. We kept her fed, and made a shelter outside. Spring came and we didn't see her all summer. Then fall, and she showed back up. We gained her trust. It took such a long time. I think we got her in the house, and she went bananas, and we put her right back out. The 3rd winter, she came in the house. The basement door was open and she ran down. We didn't see her all winter, just left food on the top step. When spring came she left. The next year, she came in and gave us a litter of kittens. She got a little tamer as time went on, but she was always wild. She'd let me pet her in the house. I tried to pet her outside once and I still have the scar on my arm. We called her Pilgrim. The relationships with the feral kitties are so unique and such a challenge. Totally worth it.

Don’t know if he’ll wanna use it but he comes and sits right up next to the door and I’m sure he gets some heat from under the door it’s a full length window so he looks in. I dread the night he doesn’t show up. The reason I have Patches inside is because he was so gregarious with other cats he got in a fight and I had to take him to the vet, so I got him neutered and everything at the same time and he stays inside of the apartment. He had been somebody’s cat, he wasn’t feral. I love the story about your feral it is an amazing relationship

The ones I got are covered with soft material, and they absorb and reflect the body heat. I got 2 for my daughter's cats and one for Bunny. They liked them.

You may want to avoid milk and cream, because most adult cats are lactose intolerant. I had good luck with cooking a chicken breast, with no oil or spice, and shredding it and handfeeding. You can also put her favorite wet food in a blender and puree it for her.

Good luck. I know it is a tough thing to see them decline. All you can do for them is give them love and comfort and hope for the best.

Bunny has hard stools, so I started giving her a little to see if it helped her. I knew cats like dairy, but it isn't good for them. I started letting Bunny have cream daily last year, figured it'd be a little pleasure for her. My daughter had a kitty who was terribly injured, had to have both jaws wired, when he was 5 or 6. He recovered, but after that preferred sour cream, yogurt, or cottage cheese over other foods. He lived to be 20.

of love. One of my cats (I'm in my 60's so have had many) Bosch, lived to 20 years and 3 months. She was the most stoic kitty I ever knew. She also caught hummingbirds and would bring them to me, unharmed. She saved our hamster, Lily, when she got out of her little home, from the other cats, and called me to get the hamster. She saved Lily.

She passed in my arms September 23, 2011. I was the last thing she saw. A few weeks later my first husband passed.

She was one of a kind.

Sounds like Bunny's one of a kind as well.

I'm sorry for your loss. I got to see one of my kids today and let her know that Bunny is fading. Daughter was here Sunday and Bunny was herself, so I'm glad about that

and 1 adopted at a shelter. One of the strays I saw multiple times while on a work trip overseas. He was living in a construction site that I knew was due for a total demolition. On my next trip I brought an empty carrier for him and rounded him up with some friends and this stray was vetted and took a 9 hour trip in the carrier under the aircraft seat in front of me. He was and is so docile its hard to believe he truly survived so many years at the construction site. But that was verified by many people. That was 5 years ago and he must be anywhere from 9-11 and has developed a number of health issues. Epilepsy, a heart defect, UTI and really bad teeth are conditions vets have diagnosed and require follow up. Chico is what I named him and he just really hates cars. Barking dogs or just the sight of a dog panics him. Other than that he is so chill. I give him some supplements and he eats very well.
It really hurts me to see him panic so much to get in the car i just don't know if its worth it to get work done on his teeth which is what one of the vets he has seen has suggested. He stays in my office room when I am gone because of the supplements i give him for epilepsy.
I have another cat who is aggressive and his name is Bunny as well. He is certainly part Maine coon and I feel bad about not being able to brush that long coat of his daily. I travel so much and just can't. When I am home its all I can do to clean litter boxes and refresh all the water bowls and take care of my jobs here at home including things for my outside job. Bunny needs special food for gastro problems probably caused by ingesting so much of his fur while trying to groom himself. He needs his own room because of aggression.
The other 3 are cats with aloof personalities that tolerate each other and can be together in the other rooms.
They are my only company when I am at home.
Over a few years I had to make hard decisions with a couple of other cats including one I had for 19 years as my only cat in a pack of 5 dogs. The dogs slowly and consecutively developed health issues and one by one I had to say good bye to them. The 19 year old cat was the last of the pack. By the time it was the end of her time Chico was here and they were best friends. She had kidney issues and starting losing lots of weight until she quit eating and rehydrating her didn't work because of the complexity with a heart condition. She lost all life force and passed away before the vet could make it to my home. None of this was easy for any of my house companions and I think of the circumstances often and miss them all.
I hope your Bunny can still enjoy some more rebounds and life with you, and it so wonderful you provide so well for this kitty.

It would be a challenge to bring a pet home from another country. I was going to mention that there are mobile vets, probably in bigger cities, but it sounds like you had a visiting vet for the last of the pack.

I know this is hard on you, but you are letting her make her choices. My little guy and I are sending vibes for comfort and healing for both of you. Your whole DU family is here for both of you.

Almost 20 years. Somebody wrote an essay, wondering why we kept pets, when we knew we'd outlive them. Part of his answer was continuity-he had a dog at this time of his life, he had another dog a different time in his life and the pets put his life in perspective. It isn't a satisfying answer, but when I think of all the events, all the people, and Bunny was right there for all of it, it makes me appreciate what a good kitty she has always been, and I'm glad the last 2 years, she's been an only cat and I got to know her better.

Bunny is very lucky and so are you. Been two years since I lost my beloved cat. I was feeling a bit stressed yesterday, took out my phone, and scrolled through some of my cat's pictures. Felt much better after looking at them.

Bunny is a beautiful cat. She has always liked to get in things, boxes, pizza boxes, glass bowls, baskets. I took pictures of her over the years and made an album on Facebook called Bunny in a ____ She doesn't mind getting her picture taken, so some of them are pretty good.

Once we got the digital cameras and phones, we took pictures a lot more often and I'm glad we have them. Glad you have pictures that left you. Sometimes I enjoy the pictures, other times, too many memories

Bunny snapped out of it, and is feeling and acting better. Maybe she ate too much last Saturday. I'll be sure to keep her intake lower from here on out. It was food she was used to eating, but hadn't been in the mood for.

I played the cat music suggested in a reply to my o.p. and that evening she ate a few licks, Next day, she had a few licks morning and evening, and then a little more each day. My daughter came for the holiday. She is a cat person and Bunny always loves when she visits. Bunny is snoozing in the doorway of the guest room, so my daughter slept on the couch, didn't want to disturb her. Last night, Bunny came out and got up on the couch with her. I've had a low foot rest, and a piece of 4x6" wood placed so Bunny can step up to the couch. Anyway, she walked up my daughter, stayed for a bit, then laid on the foot rest the rest of the night.
I am hopeful Bunny will be with me a while longer. Her improvement sure upped our holiday mood.
