Update on Pooper!

We are home!

Hyperthyroidism and severe dehydration. Of the four main possibilities that one is the best outcome. Not that thyroid issues are great, it’s just way better than cancer or failing kidneys. Plus, Leo had hypothyroidism so I am familiar with the routine of treating it. Even the meds are the same.

I was almost certain it was cancer. The doc looked at me funny when I gasped, “Oh thank gawd!” when she showed me the lab results.

Thank you all so much for your good thoughts and love! I’m positive it helped. It certainly helped me stay calm while we waited.

They gave her sub-q fluids with glucose added and a shot of anti-nausea medication. She already looks better– eyes more clear and bright, and her meows on the way home were hearty and of the “why am I still in this stupid crate” variety instead of the sad, weak, and hurting sounds she was making on the way to the vet.

She just had her first Tablespoon of Rx food at 6:00. She ate half (Yay!) then came back for a little more a few minutes later. So far, so good! I’m going to feed her little portions every few hours. No more meds due till tomorrow morning so we are just going to take it easy tonight, hopefully do some snuggling, and pray her food stays in her.

Sorry it took me so long to update. We went and got her thyroid rx filled and then over to Petsmart for a bag full of canned foods. No wonder she was bitching about being in the crate!

My vet once said hyperthyroidism is common in cats.

One cat did well with the meds and stayed with us for many years once we found out what was going on.

With another cat we went for the radiation treatment. He was in for a few days but they had a kitty cam so you could check in on him.

When he came home his best buddy wouldn't leave his side and wouldn't let the other cats bother him.

So glad they've found out it was something manageable.

This is most heartening news. I am sure she is getting all.the attention and followup care she will need. Still sending out thoughts and prayers and wish you and Pooper all the best. Perhaps after she is well on the road to recovery you will share where her name came from. She looks adorable by the way!

And canned food has more moisture, so it'll help with keeping her hydrated. Fingers crossed that her stomach stays settled - you're doing a great job.
