March 29, 2013 Natura Pet has today announced it is expanding its recall of specific California Natural, Innova, EVO, Karma and Healthwise formulas as a precautionary measure due to potential contamination with Salmonella bacteria.
Natura Pet claims it was alerted to a single case of Salmonella in a package of EVO Turkey & Chicken Cat Food on March 15th.
The company then took the precautionary measure of recalling all products produced on the same production line within the same time frame.
After further examination, Salmonella was also discovered in other packages of EVO Turkey and Chicken Cat Food and Innova Cat Treats.

Tainted packaged food is one reason I prefer to cook for my dogs myself.

(2,379 posts)I was just signing on DU to do the same. We got an email today from a place online where we had bought a bag of Innova Prime Grain Free cat food. That bag was finished and long gone, but the cats are fine. I had just started a new bag last week bought locally and it was on the recall list. Kitties had just been to the vet for their yearly exam and are fine. (Whew!)
One of our cats has a fish allergy so we're limited as to what dry foods we can give her. The local place exchanged the Innova for some Nature's Variety Limited Ingredient and said if either cat won't eat it to bring it back for a refund and we'd try something else. Both kitties scarfed it down, though, so we'll stay with this. They were already eating Nature's Variety canned food and we're trying to transition them to raw, but that's going to be a long process.
DEFINITELY GO TO THE NATURA SITE ITSELF BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN ADDING THINGS TO THE LIST.
Thanks again. K&R

(8,380 posts)Abby has to eat Purina HA due to her Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but Jack eats Innova Adult Food Small Bites. He goes through a bag so slowly, though, that we've had the bag for a while now, and he hasn't been sick, but I'll check the number anyway. I wish I could move away from dog food onto another option, but I can't while Abby is alive. It wouldn't be fair to cook for Jack and give Abby dog food. I just couldn't do it while she needs a specialty food.
