http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/No-assault-rifles-at-Saratoga-gun-show-4169823.phpSARATOGA SPRINGS Assault-style semiautomatic rifles will not make an appearance at next weekend's Saratoga Arms Fair, city officials said.
The operators of the nearly 30-year gun show at the Saratoga City Center have agreed to ban both the sale and display of "semi-automatic weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines" after a city council resolution unanimously passed on Wednesday urged the event to do so in the wake of last month's mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.
In that shooting, 20-year-old Adam Lanza massacred 20 elementary school children and six educators using a Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle. The AR-15 is among the most popular civilian firearms sales of such weapons have surged across the nation in the aftermath of the Dec. 14 carnage.
Despite their popularity though, gun enthusiasts won't find such weapons at the Jan. 9-12 gun show, a compromise between city officials that might have preferred to cancel the event altogether and organizers New East Coast Arms Collectors Associates, who sought to conduct business as usual.

(6,185 posts)The only thing that came close was a Ruger .22 version of an AR.
They've been sold out for weeks and are waiting on the next delivery from their wholesaler, but it will be at least another 3 weeks they estimate.

(594 posts)"Assault Rifle" being the proper term for a selective fire ( both semi and full automatic) close and medium range combat rifle which is very tightly regulated under the NFA, and not available to the general public without extensive background checking, permitting, and a tax stamp. "Assault weapons", OTOH, are rifles that scare politicians, and are semi-automatic rifles that are defined by whatever means the politician finds expedient.

(2,038 posts)Sellers are already sold out. Idiotic law proposals put more AR-15's in the public in the least few weeks than the last few months combined. Gun show here this weekend is sold out except a few highly over priced models. Backlash of ignorance.
Yup.

(18,318 posts)(1) assault rifles have been tightly regulated since the 30s, and there is virtually no market for them; and
(2) the ACTUAL guns you refer to -- semi-auto carbines -- have probably sold out around the nation.
