Gun-wielding Layton homeowner charged in burglary case

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/55788283-78/niederhauser-layton-police-suspect.html.csp

A 64-year-old Layton homeowner has been charged with reckless endangerment after allegedly firing his handgun twice during a confrontation with would-be burglars.

<snip>

Layton police say that on Jan. 31, Niederhauser came home late in the afternoon to find a 47-year-old man using a pry bar on the front door of his home near 2500 E. Gentile Road. Niederhauser got a handgun from his car and confronted the suspect and ordered him to drop the tool, police said.

Meanwhile, a 60- to 70-year-old male suspect and a woman, between 20 and 30 years of age, backed out of the home’s driveway in a gray four-door car and fled the scene. Niederhauser allegedly fired once at the vehicle; it was not known whether the bullet hit the car.

When officers responding to a 911 call arrived, the third suspect ran into a nearby field. Niederhauser fired once into the field before officers ordered him to put away his weapon, police said.

Probably thought he finally had his big chance to shoot some people, but he did it all wrong. Went to jail instead. Hope they take his weapon and permit.

5. It's a shame he missed the burglar. Why do some people around here side with the criminals?

I'm just glad nobody got shot and the right people went to jail.

Would you prefer the burglars were all shot?

10. The victim of the burglary went to jail, he is not one of the 'right people' unless you think

felons deserve special treatment. It's pretty clear where your loyalties lie..the question is why?
In a perfect world, all burglars would be shot (fatally, hopefully) which would end this endless discussion of how much we can possibly coddle the criminals.

11. The problem with your comments

is that they misrepresent my comments. The other problem is that you seem to be saying the crime of burglary should be punishable by death, and that is utter nonsense.
