Related: About this forumPelosi calls for 'boldest possible' gun legislation
An assault weapons ban was one of 15 proposals in a plan issued Thursday by a Gun Violence Prevention Task Force led by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), which mirrored a similar report from a White House panel led by Vice President Joe Biden.
The Democratic leader, speaking to reporters during a House Democratic issues conference at a golf resort outside Washington, said she endorsed each of the principles of the report. When pressed specifically on the assault weapons ban, she questioned the justification for such a weapon.
I think we have to try to have the boldest possible package that reduces gun violence. And I dont think we should try to find the slowest route right now. I think we should move as boldly as possible and see where we come out, rather than throwing in the towel on something that has no justification, she said.

(1,448 posts)I mean... there are a lot of "bold" things that one could do that would affect nothing.
A wall around inner cities would be "bold".
Boarder guards at the Mason Dixon line would be "bold".
I'd settle for effective.

But yeah, if you think nothing will pass anyway, why not ask for everything, including the kitchen sink?

before they would comment.

(3,419 posts)Voting for the greater good of the Democratic party as I always have but things have changed.
If he or she that is running wants to push forward some of the idiotic proposals of the anti-gun crowd good luck getting my vote.
The name calling and hatred experienced by the Liberal gun owners on this site will be reflected in the voting booth in 2014 and 2016. The anti-gun crowd can't have it both ways spew their hate and have all of us vote in your favor. And yes I am pissed off.

(24 posts)who have a strong history of perfectly safe gun ownership who aren't much interested in the idiotic 'solution' to the problem that amounts to "My brakes don't work, put a louder horn on the car".
If you think there are not a huge number of Democrats who consider this a very big issue, you're just
out of touch with a big chunk of the electorate. Dismiss it as you wish but don't come crying when the GOP takes over the WH and both Houses of Congress in the next 2/4 years.

(1,273 posts)to check for weapons and other contraband. That would probably reduce "gun violence" and would certainly be bold.
So under you plan I could get a TSA groping while driving too. Maybe would could have TSA just do random searches of people's homes to search for "weapons and other contraband"? To save money the TSA could just stay in peoples homes.
Just think. With your TSA would could trash the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Amendments. And we already have the Patriot Act which trashes the 5th, 6th, and 7th Amendments.
