... on duct tape. Clearly, without the duct tape this father used to rig his van's exhaust into his twin girls' bedroom, there would have been no killing.
Va man channeled exhaust, cut throats of twins
The Hanover County Sheriff's Office said the exhaust delivered a lethal amount of carbon monoxide into the home. It said 40-year-old Robert D. King and twins Caroline and Madison King died as a result of either the exhaust or a combination of that and the cuts on their necks.
Deputies were overcome by fumes and had to ventilate the one-story brick ranch home before entering.
Flexible tubing was attached from the exhaust pipe of the vehicle and snaked into the front bedroom, where the three were found dead. Authorities removed duct work, two notes, a video camera and several other items from the home.
(For those who don't see the parallels between my statement and similar statements made by gun control advocates regarding bans on certain types of weapons, or parts, or accessories.)
Banning objects will never prevent killings, or even mass killings.

(33,982 posts)Bad people do bad things to other people, with whatever they have at hand, and can inflict devastating injury, without a firearm.
Worse, people copycat other bad people's bullshit.
It's awful, and it needs to stop.
It is best stopped by running out of bad people via attrition. I carry, practice with, and own firearms (other than my hunting rifles) in case, and worse, when I encounter a person that wishes me or mine, harm. If that day comes, I want to win.
If that day comes and I AM NOT THERE to stop it, I want someone else who is armed, and willing to stand up, to do so, and protect others.
Thinking specifically of school, I trust my child's mind and well-being with a teacher, why not with a law-abiding teacher that chooses to arm him or herself? Some shit goes down at my kid's school, I want the comfort of knowing that I bumped into their teacher at the range one day, that they have a CPL and they know what they are doing and THE LAW PERMITS THEM TO CARRY where it will do some good.

(827 posts)School shootings are on the rise it seems, but even so they really are pretty rare.
Local police around here take it seriously enough that they are running drills on how to get an active shooter in the schools. My dept hasnt done it. I'm hoping they do, it looks like a blast to train for. As unlikely as it is Id like to feel I could react and know what to do and already know the schools layout.

some are for pleasure and fun, same as a tennis racket or golf club
some are for harvesting game
none were designed to kill.

(192 posts)Especially when you stop and think about just how many tools may be used for mass murder.
For fuck's sake, McVeigh killed off about 150 people using a van, fertilizer and diesel fuel. Which of those do you want to ban? Then you've got the guys who flew planes into the WTC. Want to ban planes? Jet fuel? Tall buildings?
Banning the "tools" of mass murder is something that makes the ignorant feel better, but does nothing else.
