If I understood correctly, the FL laws didn't prohibit any flow of information from doctor to patient, just requests for and recording of gun ownership info from patients. So even if the law was in place, I think a doctor could still say "Hey, there's a free book here if you want one." Although it might have run afoul of the law if the doctor had recorded who did or didn't accept...

If I remember correctly, the Florida law was about dealing with doctors who wanted to drop patients who owned guns or who wanted to get into gun discussions that they knew nothing about.

I showed my own children my guns when they were young. Some showed an interest in them and some did not. I let those that were interested in seeing them touch them and I explained the parts. I also explained that they were not toys and they should never touch them when I wasn't there. If you take the mystery out of them, there is less curiosity about them. One of my kids told me about being at a friends house. The friend showed him a shotgun the friends dad had under the bed in the master bedroom. My boy who was then about 9 years old, simply told his friend, we need to leave it alone and ask your dad to show it too us when he gets home. I was proud of him. He told his friend this his dad (me) would show them guns if it was ok with his parents. It was and I did. I also gave that guy a cable lock for his shotgun.

could be part of what he is saying. That said, the adults that raised me used the "see what this .357 will do to a block of ice" demonstration. Using the right semi wadcutter load, it was worth more than a thousand words.

They fight gun safety training, they fight educational programs, and in Florida, apparently, they were fighting doctors wanting to provide helpful books to parents.

As long as this is the case, they'll never succeed and only delay meaningful and effective measures that can reduce gun deaths and injuries.

They'll energetically demand abstinence-only education, prohibition of most or all abortions, and laws restricting access to contraception, which all contribute to more unwanted pregnancies and higher demand for abortion, legal or otherwise. It's very rare to find one who is genuinely interested in finding ways to reduce the demand for abortion instead of uselessly criminalizing the supply. With guns, drugs, and abortion, fanatics on both sides tend to be their own worst enemies.
