While it would be fun to have full auto to play with at the range with the kids and wife, there's hardly any practical application. For self defense my plain old semi autos ARs function fine.

Everyone should have at least one AR, they're just so much plinking fun.

It was made before 1986, so the selector goes to Rock and Roll, but without replacing the bolt, carrier, disconnector, and the tang on the hammer with actual M-16 parts, it still just fires in semi-auto mode.

Pre-86 the 15 and 16 often came off the same assembly line, and the parts were simply supplied in the modified form.
