Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumThe Hottest Conservative Campaign Gimmick of 2014: Free Guns
While candidates may be exploiting right-wing fears of an impending Obama firearm confiscation, the phenomenon isn't new. The tactic traces back to at least 1994not coincidentally the last time fears of a gun-grabbing Democratic president reached a fever pitch. Surprise: All the gun-giving candidates are Republicans. Historically, these gun giveaways haven't been terribly successful. With the exception of three incumbent politicians, none of the candidates who have tried to entice voters with firearms have ever gone on to win their races.

I think this goes back as long as we have been a country and it is legal. do not agree with his politics but giving away a legal product is OK.

Imagine if a democrat-leaning rich guy announced that, whenever and wherever the NRA holds a convention, he will donate guns to law-abiding african-americans in that city.

(3,063 posts)follow the "free guns" and see how many wind up involved in crime.

(6,185 posts)Considering the give away guns are rifles, and rifles of all types are only used in about 300 total crimes a year (according to the FBI UCR).
With violent crime still dropping, and an estimated 300 million guns in the USA, the odds on one of this handful of expensive guns being involved in a crime are pretty slim.
