Giffords' anti-gun violence PAC raises $2.5 mil this year

WASHINGTON -- The political action committee created by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband to try to reduce gun violence raised more than $2.5 million in the first three months of this year.

Americans for Responsible Solutions Political Action Committee had nearly $7.7 million in cash at the end of March heading into the election season, said Pia Carusone, executive director of the group.

The contributions will be used in this fall's elections to support congressional and gubernatorial candidates who favor universal background checks on gun buyers and support cracking down on illegal gun trafficking.

"There's always a concern that people are going to forget about an issue like gun violence and move on to something else, but that hasn't been the case" Carusone said Tuesday. "We're still amazed by how much support we're getting."

Rather than bothering with congressional candidates.

Universal background checks and aggressive pursuit of illegal traffickers and straw purchasers are both sensible measures with few if any downsides. They're not "security theater" bullshit designed to appeal to the hand-wringing, "somebody DO something!" crowd, with little if any effect on gun violence.

Will go to promoting controls that will actually have a positive effect.

I also support greater efforts at the state level. But if the group can make headway on opening NICS to all sellers & not just FFLs, I would support that national effort.

that you post in favor of a group striving towards non-violence when you leap to defend people expressing violent sentiments.
