Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumAmid weekend of violence, 6 children shot Sunday night
At least nine people were killed and at least 36 wounded since Friday. Two of the deaths came Sunday morning when a Cook County Sheriff's Office correctional officer apparently shot to death his wife, a Chicago police officer, inside their Southwest Side home before turning the gun on himself, authorities said. Three of the deaths and 14 of the wounded were shot between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Five children, ranging in age from 11 to 15, were shot by someone who fired from a car shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 6600 block of South Michigan Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
The children had been playing at a park near an elementary school and were walking home when a car pulled up and someone asked if they were in a particular gang, family members and police said.

That is why you won't find many posts by certain members that aren't about keeping guns away from people, that's their one size fits all approach.

(2,186 posts)but I really have to wonder how much more the host is going to put up with.
isclaimer: Guns don't interest me in the least, I do own a few, but the whole debate bores me, what gets my blood boiling is someone purposely disrupting a group for their own agenda while being the host of an opposite group who blocks members arbitrarily.

I sense your frustration and though we may have different views on this issue I wish no one ill.
Might I suggest you take a couple days off from DU and give yourself a rest. Come back with a refreshed attitude. I actually would be sad if you burned out.

The real problem with Chicago and cities like it is that Tammany Hall is alive and well. Like Boss Tweed's minions, a lot of these politicans profit from and protect the gangs from the police while scapegoating "rednecks from Montana".

(6,185 posts)After declaring victory over violence last week in a presser with Rahm, he announced he's now putting cops on bikes in the high crime areas.
That will cut down on shootings, the gangs won't have to shoot, the can reach out with a stick and knock the cops off the bike.
Until Chicago leadership stops looking at the gangs and their extended families as a voting bloc, instead of the threat they are, it won't change.
One shooting right in front of a gun free zone safe passage school and another right under a police Blue Light camera, installed to deter crime.

(1,401 posts)a gun can be the answer to some problems, but clearly not all. I too have no use for drug dealers, gangsters, school shooters or others who use guns to commit crimes. It is no more appropriate to lump all gun-owners in with the criminals that misuse guns that it would be to associate persons who lawfully operate a motor vehicle in with those who choose to drive while impaired.

(17,493 posts)Proposed Minimum Sentencing Law In Illinois Faces Scrutiny
by CHERYL CORLEY
October 24, 2013 3:09 AM ET
In Illinois, you can face a prison term of one to three years if you use a weapon unlawfully. But you might serve only half that time, or you could get probation or even boot camp.
Chicago alone saw more than 500 murders last year, most by gunfire. Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the current law is not what's needed to fight gun violence in the city.
"In fact, I would like to ... note that the same minimum penalty we have for a gun law is what we have for shoplifting," Emanuel has said....emphasis added
A bill backed by the mayor would raise the sentence for unlawful use of a firearm to a three-year mandatory minimum, and require anyone found guilty to serve 85 percent of that time. It's a proposal that Cleopatra Pendleton supports.

(16,974 posts)I see a murder suicide with a trained law enforcement officer and a probable gang shooting. How would you prevent this? Care to discuss or are you just going to ignore the SOP again.
