Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America 'Week of Action'

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In advance of Mother's Day on May 11, 2014, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America today announced a 'Week of Action' to demonstrate the power of moms fighting to pass common-sense reforms that will prevent gun violence and save lives. The week includes the 2nd annual 'Moms Take the Hill' and more than 150 house parties taking place across the country. Throughout the week's activities Moms will also recruit Americans to join the Gun Sense Voter campaign that will – for the first time – mobilize at least one million voters to go to the polls in November and vote for candidates with gun sense – the simple idea that we can do much more to keep our families and communities safe from gun violence.

Moms Take the Hill, Washington, DC

WHAT: The 2nd Annual "Moms Take the Hill" event will bring nearly 100 advocates and gun violence survivors to Washington, DC, to call on the nation's leaders to address the national gun violence epidemic. While in Washington, moms will meet with their members of Congress, attend a Moms Demand Action House Party and host a press conference.

WHAT IS GUN SENSE?

Gun Sense is the simple idea that we can do more to keep our families and communities safe from gun violence. It’s the belief that we, as Americans don’t have to tolerate 31,000 deaths from gun violence every year.

Definitely derivative of MADD. But I see it almost as hiding behind females, mothers. NYC_SKP May 2014 #6

But I guess so do many other promotional actions. I'm reminded of ribbon campaigns and laws named after victims.

In a sensible world, we would discuss crime and preventative measures from a more mature and less emotional point of view.

In reality, moms and dads and kids and dogs and cats want less violence.

Not so sure about cats, but you know what I mean.

...from a group with little of substance to offer in their arguments. Monsanto Mom can fuck off...and take that nascent totalitarian Bloomberg with her.

And my cat fully endorses violence...because she's a cat. that's what they do. Well, that and sleep a lot...

...Monsanto Mom is about as trustworthy as the average politician, maybe less so. I think that covers the bulk of the leadership.

I infer (guess, assume...) because a "Mom" says it, it is somehow more valid, important, wise... (Listen to your mother and don't run with scissors either.)

But seriously, group some "Moms" together who happen to agree about something (guns, drunk driving...) and start a campaign against something; you'll probably get some free press.

I think it's exploitative, the same way that children are used in the argument as an emotional tool.

It's not really constructive, I think it's devious.

The kids wanted to treat Mom to some quality time at the range Saturday between games at 8:30am and 6:00pm.

Now that's what I call a day of action and family fun....of course it won't be a bused in faux poutrage protest, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

a few minor things of themselves.

Such as accurately defining what an "assault weapon" is, etc.

Done with all of these groups that makes demands on everyone but themselves.
