still on the books ergo so is the irritant. Bloomberg has been very good at getting Democrats thrown out of office. Getting caught lying about talking to Bloomberg has made an otherwise popular and likeable governor look like just another prevaricating weasel politician.

So, yeah, he probably should have kept his mouth closed.

He told the Sheriffs that he "relied on the guidance of the legislators" and was sorry he didn't meet with any of them beforehand. But ... he didn't say anything I've seen about amending or repealing the laws.

Kinda hard to miss a couple of thousand people standing outside your door with some in uniforms with signs Hick.

But I guess it's easy to throw Morse and Giron under the bus, since they are already out of office and hope no one notices.

Less than 5 months to go before election day for Governor. If that law is still on the books, with no plans for repealing/amending it, there is an excellent chance Colorado could go back to being Red, all thanks to Bloomberg.

People are set to gnashing their teeth at the mention of Citizens United.

Ironically, it seems as though Bloomberg and his limitless money is more effective at getting Republicans elected to office then Rove -- and all by getting Democrats to support politically suicidal legislation.

1) Revealed the essentially elitist nature of gun-control and how it relies on command-decision;

2) Apologized to the "other side," the gold standard of backing down to the GOPers on a range of issues, and showing the party as weak.

People remember that, particularly when it comes to white hot issues.

One thing I don't think the laws' supporters accurately and fully anticipated was how expensive these laws would prove for Colorado. Hunting, from the licensing fee for the state, to employment of guides, hotel rooms, restaurants, etc. is a major source of tourism dollars for Colorado, and it dropped sharply. Then you have a major taxpayer and employer like MagPul shutting its doors, spray painting a (figurative) middle finger on them, and moving to Texas. I doubt anyone could do an accurate count of the fiscal hit the state took. The strongly pro gun side of the debate has the "voting with their dollars" concept down. The anti-gun side, less so. Every time they stand up in public and on TV and rail about how unspeakably deadly a particular rifle is, the stockholders of the company pop champagne corks, it's better sales copy than they could possibly have written.

Failure to consult the Colorado sheriff's actually tasked with enforcing this law was idiotic. IIRC the sheriffs have estimated that in excess of 300,000 15+ round magazines are in the state and that the law is impossible to enforce. Pre-legislation magazines were "grandfathered" in and are not identified in any way. Anyone found with a 15+ round magazine can simply claim it is "pre-legislation" and there is no way to prove otherwise. Pure "dog-and-pony" show that will do nothing positive for public safety.

But there is an inherent problem with all gun control legislation. It is (predominantly) written by people who don't like guns. In most cases, these people don't know very much about guns. It's hard to write intelligent, pactical law about something you don't know much about. This is why you get statements that make us all cringe, like the Colorado Congresswoman (Rep. Diana DeGette, ) who stated emphatically that the magazines were ammunition, and that the preban ones would be used up. She clearly didn't get that they could be refilled. What really killed me about it was a few days later, when her staffers "clarified" her position to say "she meant that stripper clips cannot be reloaded." And they were STILL WRONG, because stripper clips can, in fact, be reloaded.

Would seem to make sense to consult some "subject matter experts (SME's)" who know something about the issue; that seemed to be the issue the sheriff's had.

If both sides listened to each other a little more, spent a little less time yelling, but that's probably a pipe dream. Our drug laws seem to be written by people who don't know much about drugs, too, so maybe it's not just this issue. Here's the video if you haven't seen it.
