Guns on campus bill faces another hurdle (Texas)

http://lubbockonline.com/local-news/2012-02-19/guns-campus-bill-faces-another-hurdle#.T0JgjofDf8A

Despite Texas’ cowboy image and its reputation as a Second Amendment-friendly state, in recent legislative sessions a high-profile pro-gun bill hasn’t made it to the finish line.

Now the fate of the proposal which would allow Texans with concealed gun permits to carry their firearms on college campuses faces an additional hurdle.

So far, it lacks an author and a sponsor who can convince their fellow legislators the bill is good for law-abiding citizens.

Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-(edit: douchebag)-San Antonio, the author of last year’s bill, said if re-elected, he probably won’t file a similar proposal when the 83 rd Legislature convenes in January.

8. It would be one of those things where younger students pack to be like the upper class"men."

You make guns accessible anywhere and kids will start carrying them, permit or not. The old folks on Aricept will want to "be young" so they'll start packing. The right wingers will start carrying another one, and pretty soon everyone will want a gun or two.

We need to treat guns in public like cigarettes and cigars.

You make guns accessible anywhere and kids will start carrying them, permit or not.

then they would be committing a felony in most states.

The old folks on Aricept will want to "be young" so they'll start packing.

they will probably forget the safe combo or key location before that happens.

The right wingers will start carrying another one, and pretty soon everyone will want a gun or two.

or three or four. More union jobs at Smith and Wesson and, the Machinist Union organizes the others, who will also have union jobs.
There is a bright side to everything.

15. But you can't smoke in most buildings, and people frown on it in the streets nowadays.

That's my point, we've made cigarettes all but taboo but the gun culture wants us to accept almost any yahoo walking around with a lethal weapon.

You said in public. You want to make a point, make sure you make it clearly.

"but the gun culture wants us to accept almost any yahoo walking around with a lethal weapon."

You really don't know what the "gun culture" is, do you?

The only ones talking about "wants us to accept almost any yahoo walking around with a lethal weapon" are those yahoos on the anti-gun side of the arguement.

Concealed carry on college campuses is not a problem elsewhere. If Texas wants it, they will eventually have it. Change takes time.

Jpak, since you did not add any comments, was there something in the article you wanted to discuss?

That about sums up the level of discourse we can expect from jpak on firearms issues.

17. jpak, are you aware that the Texas Legislature adjourned in June of 2010

and won't gavel back into session until the end of January 2013?

the claim that the bill "lacks an author and a sponsor" is pure unadulterated bull$hit.....no bills can be filed until the new legislative session begins in 2013.
