If I may ask, do you carry that honker? I agree with your assessment of the .357 Mag. Eleanors38 Aug 2015 #3

My 1911 is a Les Baer...but it's chambered for .38 Superautomatic.

.38 Super, in hot +p loadings, hedges into .357 Magnum (possibly the best handgun round for defensive purposes) ballistic territory, and is an accurate and effective self-defense round. Yet you usually only see it in competition. That's a bit of a mystery to me.

I keep a Ruger Police Service Six in that caliber at home, put some Hogue grips on it so I can hold up through a couple dozen at the range.
Got it at a gun show for $240 ten yrs back. Now it goes on EBay for $450! People like them, so I guess they are becoming an item. In the future, I am looking at a CC weapon of sufficient power, but small size, could be revolver or semi-auto. What do you suggest?

But as you may expect, any 5" bbl 1911 can be a bit much for concealed carry ('speshly by a shrimp like me). I much more commonly carry a S&W 908 (steel-frame, single-stack compact 9mm). The Baer is for occasional carry and home defense.
