Defensive gun use

Saturday, Oct. 31

12:17 a.m. A woman reportedly shot herself in the foot with a .45 caliber semi automatic handgun after someone approached her front door on the 1200 block of Jackson Street. A second round reportedly passed through a wall and over a sleeping roommate. Admitting she was unfamiliar with the weapon, the woman was ticketed for prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment. The woman reportedly shot herself in the same foot earlier this year.

I'm not a gun expert, so maybe I'm missing something, but shouldn't you wait until the gun is pointed away from all of your extremities before sticking your finger on the trigger? I guess panic might cause things to get a bit premature with the trigger.

I like target shooting and I have ZERO problem with a law abiding citizen ventilating an attempted robber, rapist or carjacker.

However people without training, a background check, the requisite cognitive capacity, and common sense shouldn't have guns. Period, regardless of what the Constitution, the NRA or anyone else says.

The two concepts are not mutually exclusive.
