Couple charged in straw purchase of AK-47 at Farm Show Complex

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Harrisburg couple has been charged in a straw purchase of a semi-automatic rifle at the Farm Show Complex.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Wednesday that a federal grand jury in Scranton indicted Michael Miller and Janis Tolan with conspiracy to make a false statement in connection to the purchase of an AK-47 at a gun show in December 2015.

The two allegedly purchased the rifle from a licensed dealer, while Tolan submitted identification for the vendor and filled out a form to name her as the purchaser. This, authorities say, was a violation of federal law seeing as she acted as a straw purchaser for Miller.

The article doesn't provide much in the way of detail, (if you actually read beyond the headline) but you have to assume Miller is a prohibited person.

So it seems that the existing laws are working just fine, right?

but if they get much more than a couple of months probation, that would be news.
