Gun safety advocates pray for NRA members holding annual meeting in Louisville

As tens of thousands of National Rifle Association members continued their annual meeting in Louisville this weekend , a group of gun control advocates gathered at a local university to pray for them, asking God to “open their minds and their hearts”.

“We gather this morning, your children, to pray for peace, to pray for an end to gun violence that takes away too many lives,” the Rev Dr Peggy Cecil-Hinds told a group of more than 150 in a quiet auditorium filled with folding chairs.

“Lord, we pray this morning for our brothers and sisters that are at the NRA convention, for they too are children of God,” she said. “We pray that you will speak to them this day … and that you will open their minds and their hearts to see the good in all people, to value the lives of every man, woman and child.

“Not all the people who are part of the NRA are people who want violence, and many, many of them agree with us that commonsense gun laws are important and necessary.”

Let me say it again, so the words sink in.....

I am an acknowledged Gun Safety advocate.

I have taken hundreds of hours of firearms training. I have been a certified instructor. I have taught firearms and hunting safety in many venues.

My firearms are safely handled, and stored safely when not in use.

I have never had a negligent discharge, never been taken to task for any unsafe handling.

I also advocate common sense gun regulations.

I live in New York, which has handgun registration and licensing. I do not feel this is necessarily appropriate for all states, but I have no problem living in a state which has such regulations.

I undergo a telephone background check when I purchase a firearm.

I would lose my right to own firearms if I broke certain laws.

Therefore we have common sense gun regulation.

Misuse of firearms is a separate topic to my rights.

ME giving up the right to own/carry WILL NOT MAKE ANY HUMAN BEING ON THIS EARTH SAFER.

PERIOD.

Be a safety advocate, or NRA supporter/member. After all -- the NRA has been promoting unsafe handling of firearms since forever, dontcha know.

2. I have often wondered about that, it should be assumed that they are potential terrorists

Maybe if a few of these jackasses get taken down maybe some of the others stop being such assholes.

Gun owners in general are cowards, one or two times should be enough to have them cowering under their bed.

Takes mere seconds to un-sling and shoot.

I say shoot them on sight , just to be safe. No sane person would carry a rifle around a grocery store. Only the insane and the criminally motivated. So, again, I say shoot them on sight, let their bodies rot in the streets as a message to other hell-bent gunners.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5861731

Nonsense.

That gun can be readied and fired in only seconds. Best to just shoot them.

During an address at an anti-gun rally in front of Chuck's, Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina's Church, exhorted the crowd to "drag" shop owner, John Riggio, from his shop "like a rat" and "snuff" him. Rev. Pfleger went on to tell the crowd that legislators that vote against gun control legislation should be "snuffed" as well.

i bet they had more than 150 people praying for gun rights. probably closer to the thousands, and their are hundreds of nra gatherings a year across the US.

"In 2016, the disparity in size between the two groups was even more glaring. The NRA’s attendance surged by more than 10,000–to an excess of 80,000 attendees–while Moms Demand’s attendance fell to what The Courier-Journal described as “around 40” gun control proponents."

Last year she had an estimated 140 to 150 people with her.

So, what happens when you get 40 dedicated gun control supporters together, backed by a billionaires checkbook?

Answer: Absolutely nothing.

Boy, that is a big drop for her over prior year's attendance and she even had a "big movie" to premiere this year.

80,000! That's a big jump up for the evil NRA.

How can that be, since everyone agrees we need more gun control?
