What happens when a petition gets 3x the number of signatures needed to get on a ballot. And then that ballot measure passes with over 85% of the vote?
The people of Pike County voted, they said yes to CCW. The ballot measure as written goes into effect immediately.
If I'm not mistaken, the last time county voters in any U.S. state have explicitly reversed a state law we ended up with West Virginia in 1862.
I'm wondering how this will play out. County and local law enforcement officers in are obligated by law to enforce country ordinances. State law enforcement officers and agencies are obligated by law to enforce state law.

(10,201 posts)The ballot measures took place in 1862.
The convention began on November 26, 1861, and finished its work on February 18, 1862; the instrument was ratified (18,162 for and 514 against) on April 11, 1862.
Harpers Ferry (as it appeared in 2005) changed hands a dozen times during the American Civil War and was annexed by West Virginia.
On May 13 the state legislature of the reorganized government approved the formation of the new state. An application for admission to the Union was made to Congress, and on December 31, 1862, an enabling act was approved by Pres. Abraham Lincoln admitting West Virginia, on the condition that a provision for the gradual abolition of slavery be inserted in its constitution.
