Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumWatchdogs say IRS to revoke gun rights and passports
A new bill passed by the Democrat controlled Senate and now headed to the House would give the IRS broad new powers that watchdogs say include revoking gun rights and passports.
The bill, S.1813, is a reauthorization of the federal highway aid, safety, and construction program. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, and Senator Barbara Boxer, D-CA, added a major provision to the bill regarding the IRS.
The two Senators apparently want the IRS to have the power to revoke the gun rights of citizens and their right to travel if they owe more than $50,000 in back taxes.
But the problem is that the IRS would not be required to prove that a citizen owes $50,000. All it would take is for the IRS to accuse a citizen of owing that amount.

(17,502 posts)I wouldn't get too excited about it.
Second, I would never describe Reid as "virulent anti gun activist". I would not even describe him as anti gun. He thinks waiting periods are a good idea, but that's about it. The ironic thing is that (according to his book) Reid was or is a "toter".
Oh yeah there was the thing about "Democrat (sic) senators".

But since we're on the IRS topic:

Trust him implicitly, do you?

Perhaps Oleg has no sense of humour. Perhaps you trust him too much.
There does seem to be truth in the claim, however. The IRS does acquire shotguns for some agents. The IRS has a Criminal Investigation Division, as I'm sure you're aware.

I have to keep reminding myself here: government is bad ... government is bad ...
ps, as I light a Pall Mall ... mending complete, rehab under way; have progressed from wheelchair to walker to hobbling w/ or w/out a cane. Somehow, a wheelchair just doesn't make one feel as aged and decrepit as a bloody cane. Fourth and maybe last physiotherapy tomorrow ...

I feel another wink coming on so I'll say 'glad you're improving and try to quit smoking'.

The IRS wasn't who arrested him, but he's one example of the kind of "customers" they might have to deal with.
As far as I know, the CRA officer currently hounding me for some overdue GST/HST returns is armed only with her well-honed skills at whining and chiding ... and the drunk driving conviction she had the misfortune of acquiring in a very small town where things like that get reported in the local weekly and show up on the internet. (I was googling for her phone number and oops.)
I keep trying to work something into our conversation along the lines of "for pity's sake, it's a couple of late returns, it isn't like I've been driving drunk or something".

(38,549 posts)While still in the cast. Maneuvered badly while going from office chair to wheelchair, lost balance, and rather than put foot down, fell over backwards. Into the one small available space with no boxes full of books and papers still in mid-move, onto tailbone. Sat there bellowing for the co-vivant, who was unfortunately up the two flights of stairs at the complete other end of the house. Eventually, earthwormed my way out of the office, feet first, around the corners of the back entry, through the kitchen, through the dining room, pushing the @#$% wheelchair ahead of me the whole way, til I got within actual bellowing distance. Should have just sent him an email.

(1,735 posts)that this is just another one of those fake messages going around the internet. I checked snopes and politifact and couldn't find anything on this subject. Also, there's lots of stories re. it, but all of them are from off the wall sites. Not one more mainstream site even mentions it. Does anyone think that the Administration would even attempt to pass something like this in an election year? HA!

(26,603 posts)The only mention of firearms is in what appears to be a section on hazardous material, and it says firearms are excluded from that section:
(A) or regulate transportation of a firearm (as defined in section 232 of title 18), or ammunition for a firearm, by an individual for personal use; or
(B) transportation of a firearm or ammunition in commerce.

(8,434 posts)The NRA has called me 4 times in the last 3 years to tell me Obama is taking my guns. They are another fear mongering organization. Every call I have asked them to give me some evidence of their claim so I can show my friends. Each time I was answered with a dead line.
I fully support RKBA and I think the NRA is a fear mongering front for the GOP at the same time.
Oh yeah, got a link to the NRA saying this is false or just a claim?

(8,434 posts)So the lobbying group for the NRA is saying it's false. That's a step in a positive direction. I'm sure I'll still have the NRA call me again before November telling me how Obama and his fellow Democrats are trying to take my guns away.
