The number of concealed weapon licenses issued by the North Dakota Attorney General's office has been surging as of late. That trend is reflected in the amount of concealed carry permits being issued in several counties, including Ward and Williams.
Ward County led North Dakota with 846 concealed carry permits issued in 2011. Williams County issued 459 concealed carry permits in 2011, up from 170 in 2010. The two counties are on pace to surpass those numbers this year. Both areas are heavily influenced by the energy boom in the western part of the state and have been growing rapidly.
Much more at link. Fairly long article.
That is a 170% increase in one year of CCW permits issued and projections are for an even greater increase this year.
More FRONTLASH! Yeah.

(14,104 posts)I mean, you never know when you're going to wind up in the middle of a street battle between the Cornies and Soybeanies in downtown Minot. This country is going nuts.

(4,993 posts)of the definition of concealed carry that it applies only wearing a firearm under a piece of clothing.
Here in NC, you are carrying concealed if the firearm is not visible and easily accessible. This not only includes the obvious carrying one on one's hip under a jacket, but it also includes:
In the glovebox/center console of your car
In a bag that you can easily reach (ie: in your range bag in the front seat of your car)
I am sure that you can think of other scenarios.
It only makes sense to get one if you are an pistol shooter so you don't run afoul of any overly officious LEO.

(5,412 posts)I don't understand this mentality.
If more people exercised their right to free speech, you would probably be ecstatic. If more people exercised their right to vote, you would probably be ecstatic. But if more people exercise their right to keep and bear arms, you are unhappy.
Most of these people will probably never need to use their firearms. Most of these people will also probably never be involved in any kind of crime. What is the problem?

And the "Problem" is that the potential is there that every domestic argument and every fistfight turns into a shooting when there are guns around, unfortunately.

(1,089 posts)and carry permits aren't necessary to keep a pistol in the home. These scenarios simply don't happen anywhere near as often as the Bradys want them to.

(12,072 posts)Anti-gun people have been saying that for years every time a state goes shall-issue. And all those predicted shootings don't happen. Texas publishes the annual statistics for the entire state for convictions. The conviction rate for CHLholders is is much lower than for the general public. The latest statistics are for 2009. For example, for Agrevated Assault With A Deadly Weapon, of 2603 convictions only 4 were by CHL holders. That is about 1/6 of 1% of the convictions. For robbery there were 1,845 convictions, and none (0) by CHL holders. Murder: 406 convictions, one (1) by a CHL holder.
You can look at it for yourself here: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/ConvictionRatesReport2009.pdf
