A 24-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine, who shot and killed nude intruder David Darling on April 8 in Jacksonville, North Carolina, will not face prosecution, said District Attorney Ernie Lee.
Lee told The Daily News: I hope it does serve as a deterrent. You are putting your own life at risk. I would hope that anyone thinks before they act.
According to Lee, Darling was naked while walking up and down a street shouting that he was high and on a bad trip.
A witness said Darling was acting aggressive and ran to a home when residents turned on the porch light. A Marine's wife opened the front door and the nude man charged at her. She shut and locked the door. The residents called 911.

Apparently, both Marines reside in lower-income, high-crime-and-drug-use areas.

(11,064 posts)by exporting jobs with cheapest-labor agreements (aka "free-trade" agreements) and under-funding needed police services in this country while happily funding endless wars in the Middle-East.
These self-defense shootings are, of course, not the first of such types of shootings. But they may be among the first of a trend of such shootings. We're going to see more of them.
Although there are some persons who identify themselves as liberal and apply an anti-gun mentality test when judging whether others are liberal or not, and although many military members self-identify with those who all themselves "conservatives," self-defense is not a liberal versus conservative issue. The great majority of Marines that I've known have been apolitical while upholding traditional American values which many would consider to be liberal. It's too bad that the politicans and their high-income benefactors have created so many low-income, high-crime areas. When police services are inadeqate in such areas, more intruders are going to get shot.

(12,072 posts)Most criminals have been arrested multiple times. I posted a thread about a burglar who had 37 prior arrests when he was shot in a burglary. The system is too lenient with criminals. More police would simply result in more catch-and-release arrests with no real impact on crime.

Forcing your way into an an occupied house is likely to result in high velocity lead poisoning.

(12,072 posts)From the same article you linked: "Darling then punched the screen out of a window and jumped into the living room."
The Marine then shot him three times in the back with a .45, then tried to give him first aid.
If a naked guy, screaming and yelling, punches out the screen and climbs in a window of my house I will shoot also.
By leaving that out you made it appear that the Marine shot the guy outside his home.
