Zombie Bullets In High Demand Following Flesh-Eating Attacks
June 7, 2012 3:30 PM
DETROIT (WWJ) Worried about a zombie attack? Buy zombie bullets.
Talk about zombies and a possible zombie apocalypse has increased due to recent gory accounts of drug-induced, flesh-eating attacks in the news.
Stores across the U.S., including in Metro Detroit, are getting in on the undead action by selling Zombie Bullets, made by Hornady Manufacturing.
In promoting the product on their website, Hornady suggests, Be PREPARED supply yourself for the Zombie Apocalypse with Zombie Max ammunition from Hornady! Loaded with PROVEN Z-Max bullets MAKE DEAD PERMANENT!

Now admittedly I am a strong supporter of gun rights and the use of firearms for self defense but this advertising campaign is over the top.
The object of using a firearm for self defense is not to kill but to stop an attack from an individual who intends to put you in the hospital for an extended stay or six feet under.
At the end of the video is a disclaimer that says the ammo is to be used only on Zombies. I see some humor in the video but fear it could be misused to paint responsible gun owners who own firearms for legitimate self defense in a bad light.

(17,493 posts)in an environment where the media currently is portraying anyone who legally carries a concealed weapon as a cold blooded vigilante who is looking for an opportunity to kill another person and claim he was standing his ground.
The Trayvon Martin shooting has been used by the media for this purpose and they tried and convicted Zimmerman without knowing all the evidence. (Realize that I do not support Zimmerman's actions with the information that I currently have).
Had it not been for the publicity that the Trayvon Martin shooting has caused, this story might have been ignored. However it currently could be misused to portray anyone who legally carries a firearm as a paranoid individual who suffers from irrational fear as some posters here in the Gungeon often insinuate.
Any intelligent person would see the humor in the advertising but often the media who definitely has an agenda against legal concealed carry will possibly use the advertisement to show that people who carry might be excessively fearful of impossible events such as being attacked by a Zombie.

(6,185 posts)Hornady took their V-Max ammo and replaced the red plastic insert with a green plastic insert, designed a new box for it and started to sell it as premium priced Z-Max or Zombie Max ammo for the coming Zombie apocalypse.
I think some people buy it for the novelty value of having a box of it to show people. But I saw a range bag the other day with the Zombie Max logo on it, so somebody is buying it. I guess it goes with the Zombie splatter targets out there now too.
Must be a really slow news day or the local news director has an agenda and couldn't come up with anything else to talk about.
Now we can all wait for the inevitable claim that Hornady is obviously encouraging people to shoot others with it, thinking they are real Zombies.

(6,185 posts)These are the same types that get all freaky at the FBI standard targets at every range.
After all, it proves we're obviously practicing to shoot people!!!!

(6,185 posts)She teaches High School English in Chicago and has been using "Pride, Prejudice and Zombies" and a couple of other Max Brooks books like World War Z in her class this year. It actually gets them to read and makes them curious about the "Non-Zombie" versions.
I bought her a couple of packages of the Zombie splatter targets to use as "Awards" for her classes and they were a huge hit with the kids. But I kind of doubt that the Chicago School Board would approve of a box of ammunition sitting on her desk in class. Maybe to display at home?
About the only Hornady stuff I use regularly are the FXP, the pointed rounds, for my .45 Colt rifles and for my Dad's 30-30 Winchester. Remarkable difference in accuracy at 100+ yards compared to the old flat nose style.

I have noticed it shows up in firearm photographs as a great prop.

(6,271 posts)Silver is too hard for repetitive friction against steel. These alternatives are also rather pricey with silver in the $28 per troy ounce range. ( If you own a silver mine, disregard, Kemo Sabe. )

What a strange world we live in!
Actually it makes sense for the CDC to publish this statement. The internet and facebook are filled with posts on a virus called LQP-79.

How to Kill a Zombie
by Erik Henriksen
September 16, 2004
The stupid government is always offering worthless classes--food handling, CPR, driving--but in their attempts to curb supposed dangers like "salmonella," "choking," or "vehicular manslaughter," they've ignored the far more likely, far more dangerous threat of ZOMBIE INFESTATION. Thankfully, the zombie-killing experts at the Mercury are around to save your ass. Cut out this guide, post it in a conspicuous location in your home, and you'll be (somewhat) prepared when you wake up one morning to find your neighborhood overrun with brain-hungry swarms of the rotting undead. Best of luck!

http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2012/06/07/zombie-bullets-in-high-demand-following-flesh-eating-attacks/
I mean, Ive heard of guys who buy it just because they think the packaging is cool and they set it on their cube and they dont even own a gun,
Emphasis mine, I think some here will remember that there are members in the anti-gun minority that felt people who bought ammo for guns they didn't own should be penalized under whatever law they felt was justified. Hope those people aren't doing that in DC...

One of the reviews mentions that a friend of the reviewer uses the case for her makeup and doesn't own a firearm.
Obviously it's a great marketing ploy.
