(12,072 posts)The answer is: TWO. Two crimes in 78 years. That doesn't sound like much of a problem to me.

(950 posts)I can't imagine the same cartels that move hundreds of thousands of tons of drugs into our country every year would have much of a problem getting a machine gun or two in
gejohnston
(17,502 posts)because of the price and the mandatory min. of 30 years having one for committing federal crimes. Mexico and Europe? Not so much.

(12,072 posts)Stopping me from having full-auto doesn't stop a criminal from having full-auto. BTW - I don't want full-auto anyway, even if it was legal. Full-auto is a great way to turn ammo into noise with no guarantee of hitting anything. To be controllable a sub-machinegun has to be too large to be concealable. And full-auto is EXPENSIVE to feed.

(15,396 posts)I don't know about your RW/militia claim..

There's big money in full auto's, now the systems is rigged to where it's a dealer/LEO/ 1%er plaything ; bringing affordable full autos to the 99% of us should be a desire for every progressive gun owner.
Even though I'd still have little or no use for one unless is was chambered in the affordable to shoot 22lr. (some videos on youtube if interested)
This would make it legal to sell new manufactured autos to the 99% of us, and still keep NFA laws intact to weed out the riff-raff.

(950 posts)but I lost all interest in owning a fully automatic weapon the first time I had to hump an M-60 on a 25 mile road march.
I wouldn't mind an M1928 but I'd hate to have to pay to feed it

(15,396 posts)after May, 19 1986....the cost was artificially created by a bogus feel good law.
The law of supply and demand works it seems...Lift this ban and we can all have a chance at owning one of the finest machines ever devised by mankind.
Of course feeding the wonderful devices is still another story.

(883 posts)Are gun owners in this country finally going to come together and start the work of doing away with this unconstitutional piece of garbage?
Repealing the Hughes Amendment is the first step, and a big one that will right a great wrong, but our eventual goal should be to completely rework, or scrap and replace the NFA.
EDIT: I signed and invited all my FB friends to do the same. 200 more signatures is not that lofty a goal. Let's get this done by next week, shall we?

(883 posts)Shady, shifty Democrat sponsored Amendment, passed through criminally fraudulent means without the support of a majority of the House of Representatives. A D in front of the author's name does not a good amendment make. I hope the Republicans and Democrats work together to redeem the reputation of Congress by trashing this travesty of a law.

(883 posts)And then I'm going to start petitioning against another bad law, and another, and another, until I'm dead or there are no more bad laws. Call me an idealist.

(7,776 posts)The last one was in late 68.
Since then... there's no telling how many bring backs, firearms of historical significance have been sent to the smelter, and/or still squirreled away in grand dads attic.

(373 posts)It's classist and in blatant defiance of the 2nd amendment to it''s very core. It needs to be gone yesterday.
As someone said earlier, down with one unjust piece of legislation, then onto the rest!

(1,076 posts)I could finally afford some company for my M11. Full auto's are fun, just plain fun. Yes they are expensive to shoot but I don't shoot mine that often. The real problem with owning one is all the damned paperwork you have to do, it's ridiculous. Mine has a suppressor so I got the double whammy. It is just an organized screw job by the Fed's. Then you have to pay the $200.00 tax for each item. Some items like short barreled shotguns are less I believe. I would definitely like to see this amendment go away.
