We will do everything in our power to counter people like you who would try to erode our 2A.

They have sane gun laws. They don't worry about walking down the street and wondering if the person they just passed has a gun.
I stay out of concealed carry states because too many people with too many guns. Period. I'm not afraid of criminals, I'm afraid of heroes.

(12,072 posts)You want a more peaceful world. That is good. You think that by restricting access to things that can be used to hurt othesr that people like the Batman killer can be stopped. That is naive. He spent months planning the crime. He had a determination to do what he did. He would have found a way around any gun ban, or he would have used other MORE lethal (and cheaper) means for mass murder. Some years ago an arsonist killed 87 people at a night club using gasoline and a match. Do you want to restrict access to gasoline to stop such crimes?
The Batman killer left booby-trapped bombs in his apartment. Be glad he didn't use bombs in the theater.
Determination and ingenuity will find a way around any roadblocks that you may erect. You will only succeed in annoying the law-abiding.

People hate SuperPacs, yet for whatever reason, America does not seem to realize the NRA is the #1 most powerful of all Pacs (due to their techniques)
NRA has 4.3 million, yet they spend 100s of millions and it isn't coming from membership fees.
ProgressiveProfessor
(22,144 posts)Institute for Legislative Action. BTW, where did you get the 100s of millions number? I am curious to see what their outlays are.
The key thing to realize is that the NRA can and does mobilize gun owners very effectively. Its not the membership, its the leverage.

My point is this: If the NRA automatically enrolls people without their consent/desire, it is no wonder their membership numbers are so high.

permatex
(1,299 posts)and there is no change in the near future. More and more states are trusting the citizens in regards to firearms, gun laws are being liberalized all across the US.
Gun sales have increased but violent crime is at it's lowest levels since the 60's, not saying more guns=less crime, the reasons for the falling crime rates are many and complex, but it can be said the more guns does not=more crime.
49 of 50 states now have some form of concealed carry laws on the books and soon the last holdout, IL, will also.
If this is your idea of not losing, keep up the good work.

(36,361 posts)From the article:
"So in other words, if your state has sensible gun laws that might prevent someone like George Zimmerman a man with an arrest record and a history of violence from carrying a loaded hidden gun on your streets tough luck! A George Zimmerman in your state can apply for a permit online from Florida and carry a gun on your streets, and theres nothing you or your local law enforcement can do about it, he added."
What I have emboldened is false. One can download an application but you have to have the finger print card mailed to you.
http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/FORMS/FormsRequest790.html
Here are the requirements to get a permit in Florida:
"1. You must be 21 to get a conceled carry permit.
2. Have a passport-style, color photograph made.
3. Get verification of training that satisfies the training requirement. NRA, DD-14, state training course, etc. . Persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card to satisfy the training requirement.
4. Get certified copies of court documents relating to any criminal charges against you.
5. Take the fingerprint card to a local law enforcement agency and ask to be fingerprinted. In addition to providing fingerprinting services for the traditional hard-card format, electronic fingerprint devices are available at almost all 67 county sheriffs offices in the state. Visit the Electronic Fingerprints Information page to learn how Live Scan fingerprinting saves processing time.* http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/CWCS/elecfingerprintinfo.html
6. Complete the application. Either print clearly with ink or type the information.
7. In the presence of a notary, sign application.**
8. Submit a check or money order for the license fee of $117"
http://www.usacarry.com/florida_concealed_carry_permit_information.html
Another bit of misinformation in the article is that 32 states already honor Florida non-resident concealed weapons permits.
My home state of Michigan does not honor Florida permits issued to non-residents of that state but even if it did, in looking over the requirements to get a permit in either state, it'd be less of a hassle for me to get a Michigan permit then a Florida one.
