Concealed weapons permits for Florida non-residents

30 some states honor Florida permits issued to non-residents of that state.

Here is the list of states that do so:

Here is a questionnaire were one can find out instantly if they may qualify for a permit.

Here is where on can request an application and fingerprint card.

http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/FORMS/FormsRequest790.html

For active duty or those veterans who did not get a dishonorable discharge, Florida accepts a copy of your military I.D or DD-214 as satisfying its training requirement.

Here are the requirements to get a permit in Florida:

"1. You must be 21 to get a conceled carry permit.
2. Have a passport-style, color photograph made.
3. Get verification of training that satisfies the training requirement. NRA, DD-14, state training course, etc. . Persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card to satisfy the training requirement.
4. Get certified copies of court documents relating to any criminal charges against you.
5. Take the fingerprint card to a local law enforcement agency and ask to be fingerprinted. In addition to providing fingerprinting services for the traditional “hard-card” format, electronic fingerprint devices are available at almost all 67 county sheriff’s offices in the state. Visit the Electronic Fingerprints Information page to learn how Live Scan fingerprinting saves processing time.* http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/CWCS/elecfingerprintinfo.html
6. Complete the application. Either print clearly with ink or type the information.
7. In the presence of a notary, sign application.**
8. Submit a check or money order for the license fee of $117"

Michigan doesn't honor such a permit but if it did and I was very much interested in getting one, which I'm not, this could be a possibility. Being a vet, my DD-214 would satisfy the Florida training requirement. The closest class around where I live that I've found is almost 100 miles away and it's being held just once this year. There are other classes down in Wisconsin that my state accepts but they are 150 to 200 miles away. I had said in an other post it'd be less of a hassle for me to get a Michigan permit but that's before i found out how far away the classes were. But this is all a mute point for me as my state doesn't honor those permits and I have no interest in getting one but this info might be of interest to others.

Now to keep this OP within the group SOP.

I did not know about this till I read a post here that linked to a Brady Campaign article.

“So in other words, if your state has sensible gun laws that might prevent someone like George Zimmerman – a man with an arrest record and a history of violence from carrying a loaded hidden gun on your streets – tough luck! A George Zimmerman in your state can apply for a permit online from Florida and carry a gun on your streets, and there’s nothing you or your local law enforcement can do about it,” he added.

The above quote isn't accurate as one cannot apply for a permit online from the state of Florida. One can request an application form and finger print card on line.

Probably never will be for that matter. Truth and fact are very flexible it seems

and that it's best to double check things. I'll read what they say but I won't accept it at face value.

Edit: The same goes for the NRA too. These organizations are at the opposite ends of each other and they both put out info in such a way that it furthers their agenda.
