Homeowner shoots burglar

http://www.wishtv.com/dpp/news/local/marion_county/homeowner-shoots-burglar

The homeowner, Wallace Turner, told police he, his wife and 5-year-old daughter were sleeping around 1:45 a.m., when the intruder kicked in the back door.

Turner said he grabbed his handgun and ran down the hall to confront the burglar who was standing in his living room.

Turner said, "He wasn't getting past me. My wife and daughter were behind me."

Turner told 24-Hour News 8 the burglar repeatedly said "sorry" as they waited for police. Wallace said his only response was "don't move."

Nice to see another firearm used properly, threat stopped family safe and sound.

What could he have done differently?

Here I can at least give it the one point it deserves and not have to hear how the burglar should have been double tapped.

I figured they would still be raving how great the Clint and chair show was. Since I have better things to do than fumigate my computer's cashe, I wouldn't really know.

if he owns. I'm sure there are other blocking mechanisms as well. One question I would ask is "why that house" Random pick, or was the burglar have reason to think there was something worth stealing?
I'm a strong believer in low profile is the best security along with being a hard target.
the better the avoidance and deterrence measures, the less likelihood of having to make drastic measures.

What would you suggest for windows?

An alarm decal, bars, a deactivated claymore mine, an issue or two of Shotgun News and Soldier of Fortune on the windowsill...

Better leave the wife there, too.

And, in case it's a pedophile, the kid.

I can almost guarantee no break-in.
