An important video on the NRA

Galraedia posted a clip from Rachel Maddow's show in the Video forum, in which Maddow exposes the NRA as putting their stumping for the GOP ahead of their stated agenda of supporting gun rights.

The NRA hated Mitt's guts when he was running for governor of MA. Now they're backing him and running cushy interviews with him in their magazines. It seems they've totally forgotten their big problems with ole Rmoney. Why? Because he's the Republican, that's why. The NRA's leadership has welded itself to the GOP.

I think this is a message that needs to be shared with the gun owners we know.

I think they would turn on Ted Strickland and Bernie Sanders if it threatened Grover's "small government" project. That is why people like him and other ideologues need to be booted.

the NRA would be against a white gun grabber just as hard as a black one.

4. Let's look at the official gun control planks of both party platforms:
Tue Oct 9, 2012, 01:31 AM

Republicans:
We uphold the right of individual Americans to own firearms, a right which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment. We applaud the Supreme Court’s decision in Heller affirming that right, and we assert the individual responsibility to safely use and store firearms. We call on the next president to appoint judges who will similarly respect the Constitution. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship, enabling Americans to defend themselves, their property, and communities.

Democrats:
We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements--like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole--so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

So, why would the NRA support the Democratic party with a plank like that in its official platform?

If democrats would stop this ridiculous anti gun stance every damn election cycle.

Maybe more gun owners and the NRA could back them.

It is clear that Romney is a flip-flopper on the 2A, and joined the NRA and began spouting pro-gun platitudes just to run for president on the Republican ticket.

But President Obama is the head of the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party Platform is pretty damning in terms of advocacy for renewing the assault weapons ban and other so-called "common sense" measures.

I personally suspect the President will move against the second amendment in his second term, but I am voting for him anyway. The pendulum has to be pushed away from endless war and corporatism.

Rather than keep their felony-ignorant mouths shut until after President Obama is re-elected, (assuming that he is) Feinstein and Boxer feel that now is a great time to start flapping their yaps about renewing the "assault weapons" ban.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the Democrat who sponsored the original Assault Weapons Ban, will hold a press conference today along with Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who has been a tireless advocate for gun control, and Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez on “common-sense gun safety reforms.” Feinstein’s California colleague, Sen. Barbara Boxer, wrote an Op-Ed in the San Jose Mercury News yesterday calling for a reauthorization of the Assault Weapons Ban, along with Lautenberg’s bill that would ban large-capacity magazine clips
