Illegal gun seller gets six years

BRIDGEPORT -- A 21-year-old city man, who police said illegally sold numerous guns in the city, including one that was used in the shooting of teenagers in an East Side park, was sentenced Friday to six years in prison.

Senior Assistant State's Attorney Pamela Esposito said one of the guns Burke sold on the city streets was used in the July 2011 shooting spree in Washington Park that left one teen dead and three others wounded.

According to police, last years a task force of agents of the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and local police were contacted by an informant who told them that Burke was dealing guns. Police said the informant told them that Burke had been bragging that he had a supplier who could get him as many guns as he wanted.

The task force subsequently used the informant to purchase nine guns from Burke including a Chinese-made assault rifle, police said. None of the guns had been previously reported stolen in the state. When the informant asked Burke where he got the guns from police said Burke told him he got them from a supplier "down south."

then I guess I got sloppy and could only get 6 inch groups last week. It was still a lot of fun to shoot. But, but, but, I was next to a guy shooting a 50 cal., which does have an effect.

but that's completely off topic and irrelevant to the op.

Hmmmm, wondering if the "down south" comment will lead anywhere.

Maybe this is why true criminals do what they do. The punishment does not act as a deterrent.

Sounds like a pretty good deterrent to me!

I'm curious what exactly was illegal about the sale, though. Because he crossed state lines with firearms, maybe?

He may not have obtained them legally and was clearly selling them illegally. After six years and possibly out early this guy just might go back into business. I'm curious if he plea bargained and gave up an illegal source as a trade. Finally the ATF doing their job.

That's what he got CAUGHT selling.

Triple that sentence. Also tack on felony murder for the deaths associated with the guns he knowingly sold to ineligible recipients.

Because they enabled further crimes to be committed, and that resulted in maimed and dead humans.

I bet he didn't pay sales taxes on those guns or income taxes on his profits either.
