Cleveland police officers named in Saturday's shooting, on paid administrative leave

Around 12:20 a.m. Saturday, officers were patrolling the area of East 93rd Street and Parmelee Avenue when they saw a man walking down the street with a gun in his waistband and a beer in his hand.

Officers Mark Worsencroft and Alfred Johnson said they approached the man and demanded he put his hands up. The officers said the man did comply, but then lowered his hands and reached towards his waist.

Worsencroft pulled out his gun and shot 27-year-old Randell Scott Jr. once in the stomach. Scott was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where his family said he remains in critical condition.

Police said Scott did have a valid Ohio CCW permit, but is being investigated for having weapons while intoxicated.

Add drinking while carrying to the list of dumb things not to do.

I don't get the point you're trying to make. Administrative leave w/pay is SOP for all LE agencies after a shooting. Sounds like this was a righteous shoot and the officer should be back on the job pretty soon.

as would most others here, what it does is at least give the person a fighting chance if it comes down to a situation where lethal force might be needed to save their life.

A gun is not a be all, end all safety device, it's just an option, the best tool you have is your brain inside your noggin.

Which he was doing. His permit will be revoked.

I suppose you imagine this is some sort of reflection on the other 8+ million CPL holders?

Guns and alcohol: Gun owners drink more and take more risks, study says

Gun owners: Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger. I must warn you, though, that the findings on gun ownership and risky alcohol behaviors published this week in the British Medical Journal do not paint an altogether flattering picture.

Just the press release. Problem is, how did they conduct this study?

These insights were gleaned from a survey of risk behaviors conducted under the auspices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1996 and 1997 and culled by Garen J. Wintemute of UC Davis.
Wintemute's gun studies are not really that great or very scientific.

If you want the 'problem' reduced, enforce the law. No different than dealing with drunken drivers. Some people have a propensity to break the law. By all means, run them in.

sometimes they show up and shoot the wrong guy.

Do you still it's wise to call the police even though they have a less than 100% success rate in keeping you safe?
