(12,072 posts)I assume you are refering to this shooting: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/3-killed-1-wounded-hair-salon-shooting-article-1.1186723
I googled and looked at all the responses. None of them say whether or not he had a police record. I did find this:
"My cousin, he's been having problems," one of them said. "He's mentally not there. We've been telling her dad, just keep away from him, keep away from him. Get a restraining order."
Two other women escaped the shooting unharmed, according to WESH-TV.
Seminole County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Heather Smith said the suspected shooter told the couple at the house where he committed suicide that he was having "some problems" before he pulled the trigger.
Definately an arguement for better access to mental care.
Unless you can provide a link that shows that he was a legal gun owner then it appears you are just making stuff up.

2. How do you know they were shot?
3. How do you know that the person who shot them was previously law-abiding?

ANYTHING can pretty much be used as a weapon! Think about it! Are you going to ban all objects that may/ could be used as a weapon??

(15,396 posts)The gunman, identified by police as Bradford Baumet, was served with a domestic violence injunction Oct. 9 and scheduled to be in Orange County court Thursday for a hearing with the salon's manager, Marcia Santiago, who took out the restraining order. Their relationship was not immediately clear.

I don't know about you but if I had a domestic violence injunction taken out against someone, I'd never turn my back on a door, and would sure not be caught unarmed.
Can't wait until in the morning when Mike has his "guns are bad news for women" post.

(12,072 posts)So, a person who decides to murder ignores gun laws. What else is new?

Records in Florida and Rhode Island show Baumet has been previously arrested for domestic assault, felony assault, stalking, burglary and drug possession.
The article doesn't specifically say but I would bet that there are some convictions in there too.

The incident is indeed tragic but the shooter is NOT an example of a "previously law abiding gun owner" as you suggested. He was not an honest and responsible gun owner who just suddenly ran amok.
