Colbert rips Romney for blaming gun violence on single parents

On Wednesday, both Stephen Colbert and his buddy Jon Stewart spent the majority of their Comedy Central shows dissecting Tuesday night’s presidential debate — focusing on buzz-worthy moments like Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s unfortunate “binders full of women” comment and the candidates’ heated exchange over Libya.

Each, in his own way, called the night a win for President Obama: Stewart by marveling at how Romney walked into a “nitpicky semantic trap that hadn’t even been set” over Benghazi, and Colbert by pretending he believed the Republican had won the debate despite evidence to the contrary.

But it was Colbert who singled out for criticism one of the more dubious assertions in the debate, specifically, the connection Romney drew between single parents and gun violence.

If there weren't guns flooding the streets, there couldn't be gun violence. Anyone that understands logic understands that.

I had a lot of guns and an absent father, so I guess you and Mitt are both wrong. Ever notice the "flood" is mostly in places that have strict gun laws? Or at least the violence any why.

bad posture, knocked-kneed things that they were, spilling cartridges everywhere. I asked a passing Ruger: "Why are y'all out in the street?"

"Why, we're living up to our image."

"Which is?"

"Shooting all by ourselves."

Whereupon the little pecker began firing away at me. No problem, I thought, I'll fire back. But soon as I reached for my holster, the cylinder slammed shut on my finger. Y-y-y-O-O-W, I screamed. Then I heard a muffled snarl from my belt.

"We're in charge, now. Don't need no stinking humans!"

Now, I've gone over to the VPC, the Bradys, Mediamatters, Chas. Krauthammer. Man, guns really DO KILL. Trouble is I can't find a court record for that Ruger's arrest OR my Smith....
