FBI's UCR 2011 released

FBI Releases 2011 Crime Statistics Washington, D.C. October 29, 2012 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
Murder and non-negligent manslaughter decreased 0.7 percent. Murder accounted for 1.2 percent of estimated violent crimes in 2011. Firearms were used in 67.7 percent of the nation’s murders.
In 2011, an estimated 14,612 persons were murdered in the United States.
8,583 is NOT the total number of firearms victims murdered in 2011.
But 2011 just MIGHT be the first year that the number of firearms murders falls below 10,000 for as far back as I can find records,1973. http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/glance/tables/guncrimetab.cfm
That is a good thing!
