The police were summoned to Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, where Mr. Rahr has an office, on Nov. 1 after a heated exchange involving Mr. Rahr and an elevator operator, said one of the two people familiar with the matter. Both declined to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the incident publicly.
Mr. Browne said officers later confiscated a second gun at Mr. Rahrs residence. Both weapons were registered to Mr. Rahr, and his license was suspended while the investigation continued, Mr. Browne said.
The encounter came a few days after Mr. Rahr was involved in an exchange at the restaurant Nobu 57 that led it to ban him from all restaurants owned by Nobu Group, according to a person familiar with the encounter. That incident was first reported by The New York Post.

The expense and difficulties one has to go through in order to obtain a coveted CCW permit, makes the process even more selective and exclusionary.
NYC is a shining example of why CCW permits should be "shall issue" and at minimal cost.

My biggest gripe is, why didn't NYPD arrest him for brandishing a firearm? Isn't that a felony?

(6,801 posts)The issue here has nothing to do with guns but rather the double standards we employ in enforcing the law.
If this was some gang member he'd be on his way to jail now.

(1,089 posts)It provides a handy means to dispense privileges to the 1%.
The (white) CEO of First Mariner Bancorp in Baltimore attempted to smuggle a loaded gun onto an airliner, and received one year of unsupervised probation before judgment (sentencing without conviction, designed to extend lenience for low-risk offenders). He also possessed (possesses?) one of those rare personal protection handgun permits, simply because he is a wealthy and influential person.
On the other hand, Charles F. Williams, a (black) private citizen, was arrested for simple possession of a handgun while attempting to take public transportation from his girlfriend's house to his own. He could not have possibly received a handgun permit, because he hadn't been attacked multiple times, and didn't have the money to buy a legislator's help. He was convicted in Circuit Court and sentenced to three years in prison, plus three years of supervised probation on release.
