Ban gun role play?

Someone suggested this. I'm just passing it along to see if anyone else wants to reply.

How about a ban on gun role play in media and arts? No shooter games. Strict restrictions on any graphic use of guns.

Which sounds easier to achieve? No guns allowed; or no graphic images allowed?

ps.
Cigarette sales went down after all advertising was regulated.

I know many people who died due to gun shot wounds. About a third were suicides. When I intervened in one threatened suicide, I went to the friend's house and took her gun, her pills and her car keys. Many ways to suicide. My ex-step-son was murdered with a knife; but I can't remember any other knife incidents.

I want to play those video games and I enjoy many of them. Why do you want to infringe on my rights and how is that any different than the gun rights you feel are being infringed on?

would deter their sale, somewhat like w/cigarettes. Tax them out of the reach of many, or make them a less attractive item to spend a big chunk of money on them.

A violence tax on:
All guns
All ammunition
All large knives
Violent movies
Violent games

The FCC needs to crack down on the amount of violence that is shown on TV, also.

Just some food for thought.

I'm not saying this is an absolute, just an idea for people to kick around. There is no question that SOMETHING needs to be done & finding common ground & a doable solution is key. Let's face it, money drives all.

as an attempt to infringe on 2A, much as the old poll tax was eliminated by const. amendment nearly 50yrs.ago. And what is a large knife, and what data shows which sizes are used in assaults?

Courts look at intent. Moments Of Silence, non-denominational prayer periods, voluntary prayer (all in schools) have been regularly shot down as violations of the First: The courts know the "players" and what they are up to.

won't be paying the tax, nor those who contribute to it. Some hunter in Montana, or target shooter in Wyoming, or someone trying for the Olympic shooting team would be paying for Chicago's gang problem. That is bullshit, and one reason why "reasonable gun laws" are not supported by "reasonable gun owners" Since most US gun violence is criminal v criminal in gang fights over drug sales, the tax should be on stuff sold in head shops.
There is a 11 percent tax on guns and ammunition that wildlife habitat restoration etc depend on. That I support.

I wonder when a group, parallel to the anti-gun crowd, is going to come trotting in here telling me how I have blood on my hands because I enjoy video games, now.

Good grief.

because that's about the level of idiocy you've just proposed.

Go back and take another try at your drawing board.

my dad got my brother and I a "war" toy from the store. it consisted of a Thompson, a hand grenade, a water canister and a plastic helmet. We'd go out and play "war" for hours on end.

Since I've gotten older (and have owned weapons (guns) for years), I've never, ever, ever, ever considered the remote possibility I'd go out and play "war" with a real gun.

It was boys being boys. When we got home, we'd put the stuff down in the living room (and boy would my mom get mad and having to clean up behind us), but we never gave it another thought, until the next weekend when we'd go play "war" again.

Quit elevating the shooter in any incident as a 24/7 news story. A lot of people MAY do this sort of thing to get recognition in death they felt they deserved in life.

Quit reporting their name and stop trying to find their 2nd teacher to see how they acted when they were 7, or 9 or 12.

Ignore them. Whether we want to admit it or not, many people crave this type of attention. In my opinion, this gives someone on the edge the final push they need.

I have been arguing with people for the last week that the media plays a role in this too. But it's easier to focus on guns and video games I guess.

The twisted, sick mind that does a horrific crime wants to go out in a "blaze of glory" and "be remembered". So the media cooperates with a 24/7 news cycle that investigates when the killer was potty trained, how he feeels about his grandmother and what his favorite color is/was.

We know more about these assholes than we do about most political candidates!

While all this is going on now, some sick SOB is sitting in Mom's basement right now thinking; "I can do better than that and then my face will be all over the news and they'll remember me".

Report the news but don't make an anti-hero out of the killers for the next guy to top.

It has been said that two things drive movie sales, sex and violence.

If you banned a good portion of the violence in films others would push to ban all the sex and we would end up with documentaries.
