Worcester County security guard, acting like Old West gunslinger, charged with shooting buddy in belly during 'quick draw' game
WEBSTER A Worcester County security guard has been charged with shooting his friend during a game of "quick draw" on New Year's Eve, according to police.
Daniel G. Grenon, of Webster, told authorities he and Ryan J. Aldridge were trying to determine which weapon could be drawn faster a gun or a knife in a scenario reminiscent of an Old West duel. Police and prosecutors say that's when Grenon pulled out a handgun and shot Aldridge in the abdomen, seriously injuring the Shrewsbury man.
"They were seeing who could draw (weapons) faster when Grenon accidentally shot Aldridge in the lower abdomen," the Webster Police Department reported on its Facebook page, adding that Aldridge was armed with a knife.
Grenon, a security guard for Securitas in Westborough, told a Dudley District Court judge on Wednesday that he didn't mean to shoot his best friend in the gut, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. But being sorry about the affair didn't get him a legal pass: He was arraigned on firearms charges and a single count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

(17,502 posts)1. the writer watched too many old westerns
such duels did not exist. Dueling was an upper middle class and rich person's thing, with specific rules.

It was right outside the Frontier Delli.
While standing there twirling his guns around
Butter-fingers Irving gunned himself down.

AND the article doesn't claim 'when the gun went off' like they go off by themselves?
Color me surprised.
