Regarding "Luke's new F-35 built to redefine modern warfare" (Republic, Tuesday):
Redefine modern warfare? Against an enemy we don't have? At a cost of $392 billion of borrowed money?

Our enemy, if we have one, makes IEDs in hideouts in the Middle East and Africa and delivers them with suicide bombers. An F-35 couldn't find that enemy on a bet. Those terrorists are effectively combated by a force of 360 MQ-1 Predator drones that cost $2.4 billion.
Face it. The F-35 is all about macho, politics and defense contractors. And we want the money it brings in to Luke Air Force Base. How stupid can we be?
