With the Army and Fort Hood already preparing to cut 40,000 soldiers from the force during the next two years, sequestration could increase those cuts by another 30,000, a U.S. congressman said today.
U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, said he was displeased by the Army's announcement last month to cut the 40,000 troops, including 3,350 from Fort Hood by 2017.
If sequestration is left unchecked, these cuts could be increased by as many as 30,000, Williams said. He spoke at a Killeen Heights Rotary Club meeting at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Killeen.
Williams said when he returns to Washington, D.C., in September, he'll do "everything I can" to stop those sequestration cuts from happening.
