Walt a WW 2 veteran

Walt used to be a neighbor of ours. Back home in Appalachia , before we moved to civilization. And he was a piece of work Walter. He worked in steel mill was a strong union man. Joan his wife was always good for cookies and milk when our daughters were young. Walt would drink Pabst blue ribbon by the quart. He would always have several cases in their mud room. And in summer time he would sit on his back porch drinking a pbr I always had a open invite I’d bring yuengling lager. He would always be wearing suspenders and take a swig of beer. And I would hear wait for it and he would belch. And Joan would get upset and expect a excuse me from Walt.

Walt did think it was hilarious that they were trying to impeach Clinton over Monica. Walt never talked about the war , and I never asked. All I know is that he served in Europe on a tank destroyer. And he lost a brother in North Africa in the Big red one. I was just thinking about Walt this morning. He would make me smile he would plan his drunks. You know boy he would say I’m gonna get drunk on my birthday. And he would sit on back porch drinking quarts of Pabst. So what got me thinking about Walt was , I’d ask him Walt you wanna walk down to the bar. And he would reply is the pope catholic. And this morning Jt a good union man a USMC Vietnam vet and good friend hollered over yard radio. Asking me if I wanted to stop at the pub after work. We’re done until Thursday then back on three twelves. I replied sure is the pope catholic, he came back and said I’ll take that as a yes.
