OMG, I just turned in my letter of resignation. I'm about to retire!

I'm shaking like a leaf. I've gotten up and gone to work every day for the last 46 years. Worked for everything I have. Frightened to not have a pay check coming on a regular basis.

I do have a monthly retirement check from IBM, where I worked for 30 years and an appointment with SS in a week. I'll be 67 in July, so am past full retirement age.

It's my opinion that no job is as good as not working. Although, those who had jobs they truly loved and found fulfilling would no doubt disagree with me. But for me, work was always work: I went to the workplace, did what I was supposed to, and got a paycheck in return. But I feel sorry for those who never had any life outside of the job and have absolutely nothing to do when they no longer work.

Anyway, look forward to the next wonderful years!

You're going to wake up some day, look at your to-do list, and wonder how the hell you ever found time to work. I know I wonder that all the time.

My parents, who were both blue-collar workers, never kept an appointment book until they retired. After that, I would have to book time to see them.

If you can afford to wait to collect SS until you are 70 you might get a lot more per month. I worked until 70 and I'm getting about $500 more than I would have if I had retired at 66. The last two years of work were brutal though. Of course if you need it now you should certainly go ahead and apply.

I also wonder how I ever had time to work, I stay so busy not doing anything in particular. I haven't regretted retiring for one moment.
