I'm wiped. The "economic justice and racial justice can't be separated" people have pushed me over the edge.
I've got an outside life, and it's time for me to go live it.

(53,661 posts)Journey - Be Good To Yourself
Runnin' out of self-control
Gettin' close to an overload
Up against a no win situation
Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove
I'm hangin' up my boxin' gloves
I'm ready for a long vacation
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Oh be good to yourself
You're walkin' a high wire, caught in a cross fire
Oh be good to yourself
When you can't give no more
They want it all but you gotta say no
I'm turnin' off the noise that makes me crazy
Lookin' back with no regrets
To forgive is to forget
I want a little piece of mind to turn to
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Oh be good to yourself
You're walkin' a high wire, caught in a cross fire
Oh be good to yourself
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Thanks, you really ran the threads very well.

(1,989 posts)I don't believe a single one of my ancestors died for the trivialities of DU.
I know you weren't being literal. I was just lurking.
This place just gives me a better appreciation for some of Malcolm X's speeches.

I no longer have a problem with the fact that some of them just don't seem to get it. They simply don't have the same problems. Collectively, how much time have we spent attempting to educate? How much time did we spend attempting to discern some sense of empathy, just to get scorn and to be chastised.
Some DUers simply get it. Some don't quite, but they want to get it. Then, you have a group, that simply is not interested. Our job is to shut up, show up and vote. But, I'm done making their problems, mine. I'm listening to all the democratic candidates. When I hear the one that seems interested in my problems, that person will get my vote.
For the first time, Hilary dropped a bit in my personal opinion. I'm sick of republicans thinking they can make a law that could prevent me from voting...and I'm sick of democratic candidates thinking I need their help to vote.
Fear will not be necessary to "drive" me to the polls. It conflicts with the image I have, of myself, and of my community. A coherent policy that addresses my needs will be necessary. No other demographic, needs a savior on a white horse to vote. I'm not sure why it aggravates me. It shouldn't. It didn't use to. But, now it does. Maybe, I can see it for college students voting away from home.
But, I'm sick of them tying it to black folk.

(6,148 posts)I can see why you would be annoyed at WHERE Hillary made her "voting rights" speech. Early voting helps a lot of people, and I don't think it disproportionally helps black people. So to talk about it at an HBCU is rather insulting, but on the flip side, I'm pretty pissed about the erosion of voting rights, so if she's going to put it in her platform, I think she's doing a good thing.

(1,989 posts)It's on topic. I believe she is saying what she believes is true. I think it's true. I believe republicans are trying to restrict voting rights. It's hard to explain. There were people who disliked the movie, "The Help". I didn't really have an issue with it. But, I understood the angst. It seemed as if the writer had to come in to save the day. I guess I get a bit sick of that shtick. I'm conflicted. I want us to fix the issue. I don't want it used as a way to drive voters to the polls. For instance, I think the day we have presidential elections should be a national holiday. Why not? I think when we had the senate, house, and White House, there are things we could have done to make voting easier. So, why didn't we?
My fear is...when an issue is just as good a way or better way to get out the vote, it won't actively be worked on. It's mentioned around election time. Then forgotten after the election. These are issues I'm starting to discuss locally, also. Do we have issues with voting in my city? Well, then how can I help get it fixed. Not, how I can use this as a great get out the vote strategy. I think she's trying to figure out a way to revive the Obama coalition. But, I'm not sure she understands what was really driving the Obama coalition. My mother is torn between Clinton and Sanders. She thinks Clinton can win it. But, she thinks Sanders is sincere. I wish there was another candidate, besides Clinton, Sanders, O'Malley, and Chaffee. None of them excite me at the moment.

(18,124 posts)a lot of people will never admit the truth. Why do you think racism, sexism, gender issues relating to abuse, child abuse, animal abuse, LBGT hate and murders, continues? Because people for various reason or with just purposeful and willful blindness WILL NOT give up the perks of their perceived privilege based on skin color or economic status or whatever BS given or implied. A lot of people with those societal benefits just don't give a damn about the less fortunate who are struggling to survive in our money is king society. How can I say this? By reading the bullshit answers to your OP that are meant to obfuscate, distract and diminish the import of your timely and concise OP.
You also made a lot of people think. One of the most important functions of human beings, I feel. Great OP. Never let the naysayers here and other places ever sway you from saying what you feel is right. You're right in this OP, the haters are wrong. They have been hating so long, they know no other way.
My hats off to you big time...

(53,035 posts)About how uninformed you are about racism. Truly astounding that white people can sit there and claim they know more about racism that people who actually experience it. The arrogance and complete lack of self-awareness is truly mind boggling.
