by two separate moments: the first when Van and Don shook hands.

The second, when Van said, "he's free" and Don responded, as if in church, "he's free." And, to me, it wasn't an ordinary freedom they were talking about, but an emancipatory one. It was a follow the north star kind of freedom, a passage....

Perhaps I'm romanticizing it, listening, as I am, to Pres Obama's eulogy again on youtube, but it struck me as a deeply profound, deeply felt sense of communal knowing.
