Related: About this forumWhoopi supporters, blame white media
While on Facebook yesterday, I came across a post about Whoopi Goldberg and her ongoing defense of Bill Cosby. White people who commented, we're basically saying black people choose to make excuses; and name calling of Libutard was used. Blacks choose to completely ignore the 2005 disposition where Cosby admitted to using drugs to have sex with one woman. When asked if the woman gave permission to be drugged, Cosby's lawyer objected, and the question was never answered.
Why after all these years since the OJ Simpson trial, do blacks feel the need to ignore facts, or blame the media, when a black celeb does something criminally wrong?

(99,710 posts)I am in L A and the local chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. petitioned the Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce to remove Bill Cosby's star from the Hollywood Walk Of fame.
Oh, and I don't think all black folks think alike.

As to OJ, jesus christ, a cop goes on the stand, the cop who FINDS the most important so called evidence and is shown to be an outright racist and anyone is confused about the verdict?
White privilege at it's best
Blood taken from one place to the other by the other cop?
and there is confusion?
fucking amazing

(16,286 posts)From a legal viewpoint, the trial was an illustration of what has happened to AfAm in our courts forever.
Sometimes the defendant is guilty, sometimes not, but always they are on the receiving end of racism, lying cops, etc.

(147 posts)In any case where a spouse is killed, the remaining spouse is the #1 suspect. OJ was even more of a suspect because of the previous assault(s). He swore that be would bring to justice the man that killed her. What did he do, he played golf, and got into further trouble. Now he's in prison, where he belongs. They nailed his ass, not just for the theft, when it came to sentencing but also for the 2 murders he was acquitted of. That was wrong to do, I admit that, but he assumed his celebrity would keep him out of jail, no matter what he did. They proved him wrong.

(147 posts)I came across 2 posters on Quora, who refused to believe that second hand smoke causes lung cancer. Even when I presented evidence, they denied it. These deniers and conspiracy theorists are everywhere.

(147 posts)Before her Cosby defense, she had also publicly defended another friend of hers, Mel Gibson. Remember his anti-Semitic and racist rants about blacks and Hispanics? Even though he was caught on video yelling at a female cop, and taped over the phone by his ex- girlfriend. It seems that no matter the evidence, she'll ignore it.

(89,254 posts)her defending these people have nothing to do with race but her relationships in that industry. she is wrong in all 3 cases .
i haven't seen many black people defend Bill Cosby .
and there aren't any black people who defend Oj Simpson either and pretty much all of them will tell you he is guilty.
why do white people keep bringing up OJ Simpson as if that was some example of huge injustice done against white people by blacks ?
Same reason they grasp at straws to justify the disproportionate number of POC victims of police brutality. To do otherwise would mean they are tacitly condoning institutionalized racism and that requires more self reflection than many people are capable of.

(3,919 posts)she is defending bill cosby in so far as he "innocent" until proven guilty. and, no charges have been filed. that is all.
and, furthermore, she doesn't care what the rest of think of her stand on "innocent until proven guilty".

(11,833 posts)There's nothing wrong with her taking that position publicly. Of course I think he's guilty as heck. But I would not say she's 'defending' him. She's stating the rule of law in this country. Much ado about nothing.

(147 posts)How could she defend him? She didn't care about the evidence. The same with Cosby, if an eyewitness came forward to say they sold him the drugs (il)legally she still wouldn't care.

(3,919 posts)she is taking the high road for now. and, you are correct - she is not "defending" him.
i have my personal thoughts on these accusations, too.

(147 posts)Because their belief in them, let's them treat us the way they see fit. As well as to criticize, disrespect, control, etc. No matter how many times we break the stereotypes whites refuse to believe that they're wrong. Remember, we live in a society where whites want to dictate to us their definition of racism. Our experiences mean nothing to them, unless they tell us its important/tragic/etc. Their opinion makes it official. We're always the supporting cast, even when it's our story.
