It was Ms. Bland's death. That's what sparked this! Chris Hedges if you can catch a replay!

(14,733 posts)She's answering a lot of the questions a lot of white folks on site have been asking about what BLM protesters wanted and want and hoped for from the candidates. Hopefully somebody captured the segment and it'll be a vid on YouTube soon.

Sorry, Ashley, but it is appropriate to talk to folks like Sanders and O'Malley.
BLM created an embarrassing moment for NetRoots and for themselves.
I hope they disappear into the obscurity they deserve.
I more fervently hope the issues arising out of Treyvon Martin, Ferguson, etc. get the attention they deserve with proposals for serious, somber and genuine reforms.

(31,931 posts)And the poster completely ignored where the anger came from.
See, an educated black woman checking in with her new job at her alma mater just got murdered by cops.
It proves my point - my nephew can get murdered by the cops walking to his job at an investment firm in Manhattan. His first year salary and bonus will not protect him from his skin.

(31,243 posts)even more clueless than he is, and they will be death of his campaign. Two percent (2%) AA support (if you can call it that) is death for a Democrat. I honestly think BS' campaign died over the weekend, I'm just waiting for the memorial service.

(16,286 posts)Including liberals, but I dont think most of the Bernie supporters here at DU are liberals.
Most, not all, but most are just moderates who love Bernie and I get that, but not liberals, nope.
White Americans are used to telling Black Americans what to do and think.

Next year Netroots is going to be in St Louis..
"In a statement, Netroots Nation Executive Director Raven Brooks stood with the protesters. Although we wish the candidates had more time to respond to the issues, what happened today is reflective of an urgent moment that America is facing today, Brooks said. Next years conference will take place in St. Louis, close to Ferguson, and local leaders of the #BlackLivesMatter movement will be directly engaged, Brooks added. We plan to work with activists there just as we did in Phoenix, to amplify issues like racial profiling and police brutality in a major way.

(32,342 posts)Netroots has been revitalized. Their selection of St. Louis as their venue next year shows a new seriousness, imo. And going forward, politicians are on notice that they need to bring their A-game on race.
Black people never seem to get to pick "appropriate" times to be confronted by racism. Maybe white people should start expecting the unexpected.

(31,931 posts)You are allowed to be unimpressed.
But - you also have to accept that these women started this - and they aren't backing down. Ashley Yates was on the ground in Ferguson 'agitating'.
And if I get stopped by the NJ State police this morning and wind up dead in jail on Thursday morning -
I know these women will have my husband's back - telling him 'tranquile' - and to not retaliate. That said - so would the FBI. Because I deal with them regularly. Funny - two agreed with me yesterday in regards to Ms. Bland.
Shit storm is starting whether you like it or not.
Hopefully - you will return to the GD Bubble where you are safe and secure and never have to fret about such things.
