Related: About this forumIt was a very Nupey Xmas ...
As some of you may know, I am a member of a traditionally Black Fraternity. Having been initiated over 30 years ago, I let my membership dues lapse and was uninvolved with the Fraternity.
Recently, on the encouragement of Mrs. 1StrongBlackMan, I got involved with a local alumni chapter; but the problem was ... I had long since lost /out-grown all of my gear. At Kappa events, I could wear the colors; but had nothing with the Shield or letters on it.
So Mrs. 1StrongBlackMan and BabyGirl 1StrongBlackMan came to the rescue ... I got a hat, several shirts and a jacket. From this point on, I will be able to proudly represent.
Thank you Mrs. and BabyGirl 1StrongBlackMan!

(31,849 posts)I thought so, as well. Especially, since I do not recall mentioning it ... other than to maybe have mentioned that I probably should buy something.
For Mrs. 1StrongBlackMan, I took an old faded photo that she has of her Grand-mother, Mother and her three aunts (and some unknown other women) that was taken early 1950's ... it's the only picture my wife has of all of her female line. I had the picture restored and blown up to 20x30 and framed.
So on Xmas eve morning, I told Mrs. 1StrongBlackMan that I had to go out and get her Xmas present. She was visibly and audibly angered by my waiting to the last moment to get her a present ... "I guess that shows how much thought you put into my Xmas, huh?"
On Xmas morning, I handed her her first present, a book on Juicing (she plans to start juicing after the first of the year), and her second present, a 4 -slice toaster. I figured that she would be pi$$ed because everyone knows ... you don't buy your wife a household appliance for Xmas or her birthday; but she was actually pretty happy' Then, she looked at the wall over the fireplace and saw the picture ... her real gift. She was moved to tears.
And then, when her brother came for Xmas dinner ... He, too, teared up.

(113,612 posts)(as for never giving a woman an appliance--was just talking to a friend today about how we are probably amoung the few who actually enjoy getting kitchen stuff as gifts, like a friend yesterday who got a wonderful food processor (I told her if it ever went missing, I would know NOTHING about it!)

(31,849 posts)I recall a TV commercial, I think for Loews, where a bunch of guys are standing around, when a youngish guy comes up to them and says, with great enthuiasm,"I got my wife the washer and dryer that she said she wanted!"
And the group of guys, all said, "Aww, your new to this Xmas buying thing, huh?"
To which the youngish guy says, "But she said she wanted it ... Ohhhhh!"
And BTW, my perfect gift would be the gas stove with double ovens that I've had my eye on ... But that would mean running a gas line into our kitchen.

(113,612 posts)but can see the point. cool kitchen stuff is one thing--washers and dryers--ummmmm)
anyway, span, lunar new year, valentine's day, vernal equinox, beltaine, LOTS of good gift-giving occasions coming up for that new stove (even if you do have to put in a gas line)

(5,105 posts)Mrs 1Strong and Baby1Strong must have read your posts here and have as much respect for your thoughts as as I do.
I don't know what "nupey" means, I assume it's a new word. I've been stuck in the burbs of a red state for the past few years. Hating it. Really need to be back in a city. The last good new word I learned was "hella." And that was years ago.
