While listening to the developing story of the shooting, including the name of the shooter ... After having determined that BabyGirl 1SBM was safe and sound ... my thoughts immediately went to the oh so familiar prayer: "Lord ... please don't let Steven Jones be ..."
I know frequent posters to the AA can complete the prayer.

At what point do you think we won't issue that prayer? And - most people won't admit they still pray this same sentiment.

Mom and Dad Gen go to movies and a dinner on a Saturday night.
I'm single and out and about.
Wireless handset starts ringing. I ignore.
5 more attempts - I look at handset.
Think - JAG . . . Something's wrong.
Phone rings again.
JAG picks up.
"Understand - we just saw this movie Taken. It's fine that you take off for long weekends to Europe by yourself. However I was a Green Beret and I've still got my skill set."
Years from now baby strong will be sharing the story of her dad calling her at 4 am.
Heaven forbid you should care!

(31,849 posts)Between Mrs 1SBM and I, we got over 200 calls/texts/emails, asking about BabyGirl, and expressing concern.
I may not have the skill set: but, we certainly have a network ... that could put us in touch with 20 or so folks that do!

(19,460 posts)My grand daughter wants to go into veterinary medicine but she is only 13 so that may change. Don't know if your daughter is aware of this but some rural counties in the country will pay her to come in and do vet work because for some the nearest vet's office is over 100 miles. I have heard they provide housing and an income but I am not sure of this. Might be something to check into.

(31,849 posts)She has NO interest in doing large animal vet work ... just companion animal stuff.
Me, the HR guy that follows employment/wage trends, is like, "BabyGirl ... large animal vets can make 6-figures, part-time, companion animal vets makes much, much, much less, and mostly deal with very, very, very sick pets (and their owners) ... are you sure your bank account; but more, your heart, can take that occupation?"
But, then, the "I raised you to Be Free" part of me kicks in, and I say, "How can I help?"
