So people really do not want answers or to learn from others. It seems like they'd much rather build up (loudly..with chest out, looking down their noses) a case of why they are right and others are wrong...no matter how steeped in logic, experience, or fact a case or subject is brought to them, they'd rather just argue and get their friends to 'amen' or 'rec' a thread.
The amount of patience and strength many of you in the AA Forum have demonstrated outside this forum is tremendous. I see your posts in GD, GD: P, LBN, etc. and I am to the point where I look for AA Forum names to see if the topic is worth more than a cursory read.
Your efforts really do remind me of Civil Rights workers in the early 60's who had to put up with a lot of bullshit and stupid-ass, ignorant white people who didn't want to help. You have to talk to these folks like you are talking to a little kid with sensitivity issues, otherwise, you have a bad attitude and are "attacking" them or being "hostile". SMH.
Going to take another shower since my (very quick) GD: P post is making me feel dirty and taking away my Scalia buzz.

(15,038 posts)but who must insist you recognize, admit, and flail yourself for being wrong.
It's rare anymore that I read deeper than 6 posts into a thread. I usually give but a quick glance at the titles, then choose if I'll go deeper based on the responses and the names of the posters. And if I do make a comment, it's even rarer for me to reply to anyone who responds. Again, far too often, the willful misunderstandings and mischaracterizations on so many of the boards make the experience too tedious for any enlightened conversation.
Mores the pity. Perhaps, in time, there may be a revival of the previous well-considered interplay, but I have scant hope it will materialize.

(6,150 posts)But with a Cruz presidency... it's a possibility.
Sometimes Democrats (actually, I am one at the moment, had to register Dem to vote for Donna) really get to me, but to keep a conservative out of the Supreme Court, I'll campaign my ass of for any one of them.
I think that's why I don't care who gets the Democratic nomination. It's what happens in September to November that matters to me.

(24,544 posts)intellectual superiority calls you a RACE BAITER. That's when you know you've arrived on the DU!
The calling card of racist, ignorant, privileged, and did I mention racist? morons the entire world over has made its way to DU only a couple of thousand times over the last 12 years or so. And it's usually tossed at black people and clear allies of black posters, which makes it all the more deliciously Freeper-esque.
I am to the point where I look for AA Forum names to see if the topic is worth more than a cursory read.
I have always done the same. ALWAYS. And it's kept me out of a lot of trouble.

(31,849 posts)You haven't lived until some mouth breathing moron convinced of his own intellectual superiority calls you a RACIST, for the high crime of being "divisive" ... read: not buying into the economic primacy model being pushed onto Black folks.
Then ... and, only then, has one arrived!

(24,544 posts)forum chimed in to basically high five the person who said that to you?? One of them even agreed wholeheartedly with that post and was all proud of himself for his "courage" in agreeing with it... well up until he self-deleted his courageous post. That was a SHIMMERING DU moment there!
And then another poster stopped hunting ducks just long enough to come into the thread and post the jury results on the post calling you a "homophobic zombie troll" and to let everyone know that a jury was perfectly happy with someone calling you a "homophobic zombie troll" and the cherry on that shit sundae was when you got a post hidden for telling the person who called you a "homophobic zombie troll" that he had the wrong dude! Rememba???!!
Gotta love this fucking place.

(24,544 posts)I was just so blown away by that bit of fuckwittery. And the fact that it was Captain Courageous Post Deleter that was the one that called me a "race baiter" a few weeks ago just makes it all even better, don't it??

When I came back recently, it was someone calling bravernak a race baiter because she posted an excerpt from Letter from a Birmingham Jail that kicked me into gear to post again
I scan post authors and also use ignore and trash thread liberally these days to say out of DU jail.

"stupid-ass, ignorant white people"
This whole post is racist trash and nasty generalizations. Being in a protected group doesn't mean the rules of DU no longer apply.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Feb 15, 2016, 07:25 PM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.

(8,709 posts)Yeah, I've done the same and I don't think I've ever seen a, "Oh yeah, you're right about that." We have nothing to prove to them that over 450 years hasn't repeatedly illustrated. Thank goodness for this group that definitely helps to resist engaging little kids with sensitivity issues.
