Based on Bravenak's excellent yet excrutiating thread.
Rhetorically "three fifths" implies slaves were three fifths as much of a person as whites, but that misses a huge point: electorally and legally they were zero fifths of a person -- the three fifths was (horrifically) an extension of their traffickers' franchise.

(25,612 posts)That's for sure. It's like a nature program when the predator kills an animal and it and its offspring tear into it with bloody fangs, then the rest of the group digs in; later other animals come across the carcass and sniff around, gnaw on the bones, finally it's just a couple of vultures fighting over bits of fly-covered skin and you think: why the hell am I watching this?

(23,340 posts)All these attackers are toothless,. No one can be banned, so they can't hurt Bravenak , and can't be hurt themselves, so their worst behavior is coming out. This thread is quite revealing in exactly who believes what.
The stalkers are right there

(25,612 posts)I find comments like the "we are all three fifths of a person because Wall Street" and bragging that one is disenfranchised because a change in work schedule prevents one from voting to be offensive.

(1,045 posts)And I notice a good amount of folks who say things like this are the same folks who will deny black folks experience racism.
Btw, I find your posts hilarious so I follow you around aa bit.

(24,605 posts)As a white person I find it an embarrassing display of obliviousness of white privilege at best and perhaps an arrogant flaunting of it.
Your previous comment was a perfect description of bravenak's thread. I was away when the OP was posted so I encountered the entire train wreck at once, alternating between extreme anger and sadness at the comments. I found the intensity of raw hate to be very frightening...it really brought home the danger bravenak has faced from those who followed through by seeking her real identity to send her personal hate mail. A chilling reminder of life as a strong black woman willing to speak her mind.
