And again...Video: Illegal traffic stop leads to beating and illegal medical procedures in S.C.

Driving while black with white woman in the car seems to be the only "crime" here. The illegal medical procedures are a horrific violation of his rights and dignity.

Knight then began to ask Hayes {black} about Skipper {white}, where they had been and where they were going. Those are pretty standard questions, although Hayes was under no obligation to answer them. But Knight also asked Hayes about the nature of his relationship with Skipper. He asked whether Knight knew her full name and the age of her son, and asked detailed questions about the party they had just attended. He then asked Skipper a similar line of questions. He later said in a deposition that he wanted to know what the relationship was between the two. Knight also claimed that Hayes was shaking when he handed Knight his driver’s license and registration, although as a federal magistrate would later point out in a report on the incident, there’s no evidence in the video of any shaking.

Through all of this, Hayes was polite and respectful and obeyed Knight’s instructions. Knight also asked both Hayes and Skipper whether they had any drugs, weapons or any other illegal items in the car. Both repeatedly not only said no but also volunteered their permission for Knight to search the vehicle — again, even though they would have been well within their rights to refuse. Knight not only didn’t search the vehicle but also didn’t even bring his drug dog out to sniff.
bold added.

snip
Within a couple of seconds, Knight throws Hayes to the hood of the vehicle, out of view of the camera. Hayes says, “What’s the problem, officer?” and then there’s only audio of a scuffle, with Knight repeatedly telling Hayes to put his hands behind his back and Hayes crying out in pain. Knight then shows up in the video holding his flashlight and Hayes’s hat. He puts Hayes’s hat on the hood, then begins searching around the vehicle (presumably for the baggie of drugs he thought Hayes was hiding). Hayes comes back into the frame about five minutes later wearing handcuffs, his head bloodied. At some point during the scuffle, Deputy Keith Hunt had arrived as backup. Hayes alleges that Hunt then held him down while Knight hit him. Hunt later said that he restrained Hayes so that Knight could get him in handcuffs.

snip
Under South Carolina law, medical personnel can forcibly draw blood to test for HIV and hepatitis B, but only if the person has been convicted of a sex crime or has exposed others to bodily fluids during the commission of a crime. Even then, the procedure requires formal charges, a motion, an opportunity to challenge that motion and a court order. None of that happened here. Instead, Hayes was held down by hospital staff on Hunt’s orders while a nurse took blood from his arm against his will. He was also given an X-ray, a CT scan and an EKG, all again without his consent.

The tests showed no communicable diseases and no drug package in Hayes’s stomach. The police found no illicit drugs on either Hayes or Skipper, nor in the van, nor on the ground around the van.

... among bigoted cops to inflame racial tensions by abusing their power and harassing, beating, and killing People of Color, often without reason or provocation? I am ashamed to admit that my younger stepson is a cop, and married into a tribe of knuckle-dragging racists with room-temperature IQs.

Stories like this enrage me.

People have told me for years that I needed a gun to protect myself when the race riots start.

Especially after reading this article. I am always afraid that my family (I'm black, my husband is Mexican but looks white) will get pulled over on some bullshit excuse. When there's trouble, why would we even feel safe calling the police? We can't even drive without having a family gameplan for if and when we get stopped.

The medical personnel should loose their licenses at bare minimum as well.

What a bunch of sick fucks.

...she was visited by a couple of different cops at her place of employment over the next few weeks asking her out for a date. She was out-of-state, 19, innocent and vulnerable. The cop who had stopped her asked where she worked so she told him. Now she has the opinion that most police officers are dishonest, conspiratorial scumbags.

is good parenting?

I am relieved my sons know some cops are not to be trusted. Actually, I'm relieved they err on the side of distrust. They know to be respectful and that their sole mission is to survive the encounter.

When they meet a good cop, great, they may see a better world. Meeting the other, they are prepared.

Funny, I feel that by warning them about cops we have protected them from the reality of the world...

But having the talk doesn't mean that the child grows up thinking cops are corrupt scum bags, just how to act to not make things worse at a police encounter. That cops can be corrupt scumbags they have to learn on their own.

Sorry if it was not clear.

Cops like this are hired precisely because they are racist and the white supremacists are trying to keep minorities "in their place" and when dating or married, in their race. Still. Racism. This society's long term possibly terminal disease. I'm waiting and watching for the "tipping point" event. Michael Brown. Sandra Bland and all in between and since show the reality of being AA in this culture.

15 an hour is great, yet when that person is on their way home from that job and they don't bow down quick enough to 'massa' wearing a badge, 15 dollars an hour can't help them. Healthcare would help if they are gotten to the hospital in time after being shot multiple times or beaten beyond recognition for "resisting arrest" or after being hung in their jail cell. Education hasn't done a damn thing in educating the racism out of this culture, in fact it will just allow more david duke types to be more educated in word usage and strategy to be a better racist. Been proven in just last 7 plus years by the RW racist(s) 'leading' the rabid pack in D.C.
